Bushmere lake
Bushmere is a small lake of 1.5 acres. With many visible features that make fish finding a lot easier than many other lakes. As far as under water features go there is a gravel bar running the length of the lake, the bar very easy to find and produces fish all year round. The venue is successful all year round with winter being the time for the bigger fish off the bottom. All though fish can be caught off the surface in the winter, its best in the summer where a few doubles can usually be caught off the top in a few hours fishing the shallow end of the lake.
Although facilities are non-existent a 5 min walk down the road is a Renault garage which offers a few things that will help you though youre session (sausage rolls, crisps, petrol for a coleman stove if youve got one).
This lake can produce some great night sessions, as it is very rarely night fished in summer and never night fished in winter so the fish simply dont know what hit them.
Be warned a lot of the best spots are right by youre feet (tree to the right when fishing from the island swim) so try to be as quite as possible at all times.
As far as swim size is concerned the swims are very small, there are around 3 swims in which you can fish with a 2-man dome and around 6 that I can fish with my viper and probably 7 with a 50 over wrap
Warning!! :- Bushmere can become very muddy in winter
The bank is currently in very poor condition, this was caused by all the floods and has left the lake with a large section of bank missing and all the grass and vegetation flattened.
But dont worry, as this will hopefully be sorted out this close season
Oh I nearly forgot the fish, this water is not the place you want to go if you want to catch a biggie as they only run to 18, Ive had the record fish at just under 17 pounds, and a 16lb 8oz which I had the next summer at a weight of 15lb 3oz
As I said there arent big fish in this lake but there are a whole lot of doubles, you will usually catch at least one double on a 24 hour session.
I would put what baits are catching the fish, but Ill let you work that one out for youre self.
In conclusion Bushmere is a great lake for the beginner or the man (or woman) who wants to catch a few.
