Thursday September 30 2004

We had our first meeting. Of the 7 expected, 4 showed up. What was planned, we did most of it. The youth wanted to play some games of their choice, so I let them. I gave them one condition to playing it, one of them had to lead it. The 2 games that they wanted to play were Octopus and Line tag. See "Cub Resources"

We talked about a few things. We found out what they did over the summer We found out what kinds of sports outside of scouting they are involved in.

I then asked them what they would like to do this year. The major events that i have already planned they listed them all.

Near the end of the meeting, we went outside. We played a simple compass game called "NEWS"

We visited Jack Pine hill. There is a tower there, which we went up. Up there we could see all the way to Powassan, which is over 30 km away. While we were up there, the guide explained the lay of the land, and the history of the area.

After going up in the tower, we came down, and the guide showed the youth some animal skulls and furs of local wild life.

The youth enjoyed both activities.

Our second meeting at our hall, a school gym.

We had one more show up.

The theme for this meeting was the jungle.

We did some jungle dances, some liked it while others did not. At camp, we likely would try it again.

We had an indoor campfire. Some made an effort to enjoy it, others did not. Last year was mainly floor hockey and Basketball. It will take some work on my part, but eventually the various Scouting ceremonies and jungle themed activities will be intorduced, and may even be liked.

We worked more on the law, promise and motto, using it as both a refresher for those whom are invested, and to help those not invested be ready.
