Sunday evening, which was Halloween, the Lord showed me something that
I had not seen before, nor heard anywhere else. I don't claim to completely
understand it all, but am going to share the best I know how.
It began as a discussion about the movie, "The Blair Witch Project."
The conversation centered on whether or not it was "real," or perhaps just
hype (there is a genuine "witch" legend close to my own hometown). I decided
to do some research to see if I could find out. As I was looking in various
newspapers and magazines I mildly wondered why in the months since its
release I had not heard it mentioned at all from either the pulpit or anywhere
in the "internet prophetic." My research led to an article in Newsweek
dated
August 16, 1999. This article answered a lot questions, but also led to
a startling revelation.
The first thing I realized was that it was not "real," just hype. But
as I continued to read the article, my spirit became "vexed" and the Holy
Spirit seemed to speak to me. Part of the "hype" that helped the "success"
of the movie was a website that had been setup with "evidence" including
fake newspaper clippings and even a bogus diary. Later more "evidence"
was produced like false "historical" accounts, fake "interviews" with police
and family members, and finally culminated in a one hour "mockumentary"
which aired on the SCI- FI channel. What "vexed" my spirit was the realization
that this kind of "hype" was exactly the same kind of thing that is being
perpetuated throughout the world today, preparing for the coming of the
Anti-Christ. But there was more to come. In addition to the faked "story"
concerning the events contained in the movie, the article described how
there was no script, but the actors were literally dropped in the middle
of the Maryland woods and actually "lived out" the conditions seen in the
movie, and then were individually given secret instructions on how to "act"
that day and the story arise from a sort of ad-lib. To me personally, it
is a cruel way to make a buck. I've wondered for years what kind of spiritual
and emotional effects making horror movies has had on small children that
are cast in them.
The most startling revelation of all however, was still to come. In a bonus section of the article titled "Milking the Mythology," the infamous "stickman" that has become the movie's logo is reported to be based on an actual "rune" which is called "the burning man." I was stunned. For those who may not know, a "rune" is basically a magical symbol which is used as either part of a magical "alphabet" or has a particular meaning of its own. Hebrew is very similar, having individual meaning, a numerical value, as well as being part of the Hebrew alphabet. I confirmed the identity of the rune with a friend of mine who before becoming a Believer had practiced in the occult.
What makes the "identity" of the "stickman" so startling is that a few
months before I had read an article by George Otis Jr. in a March 1997
issue of Charisma. In this article is a graphic description of a
neo-pagan ritual called the Burning Man Festival. This is an annual event
held in Black Rock Desert of Nevada. Held every year during the Labor Day
Weekend, it is attended by people from over 20 countries and attendance
has been marked at 10,000 and climbing every year. During this time every
sort of idol worship, and all the detestable practices associated with
it, are not only practiced but are blatantly encouraged, even to small
children who come with their parents. I won't attempt to describe it any
further in this article, but instead have included a link to the article
at the bottom. Again, the festival contains all of the "hype" and practices
which is preparing the way for the Anti-Christ.
As Believers we are called to be the "salt of the Earth." As George
Otis stated in his article, "the Burning Man Festival isn't simply an annual
event; it is a trend, a barometer of our society's spiritual health." We
should begin to pray that the Lord would forgive us for the spiritual decay
that exists in our society that allows such events as the Burning Man Festival
and movies like the Blair Witch Project to not only be acceptable, but
successful.
I do not for one minute think that this article could even begin to
cover the implications of what I have tried to convey. In fact I believe
it is just the "tip of the iceberg" that links what is accepted as "entertainment"
and outright satanic practices. I will be praying that others in the Body
of Christ will "wake up" to what is happening, and act on it. I am only
doing here what I know to do and will be praying myself. I do not encourage
anyone to focus on what the enemy is doing, because certainly "Greater
is HE that is in you, than he that is in the world." But also we
are not to be "ignorant of his (satan's) devices."
