This past Sunday the Lord shared with me something that has really hit me hard.
 

Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted. Their soul abhorreth all manner of meat; and they draw near unto the gates of death.

-Psalm 107: 17-18
 

As I was pondering the scriptures, the Lord showed me a very beautiful young lady. She was at a table eating a very healthy meal; meat, vegetables, fruit, bread, a very balanced meal. But then I noticed something strange, the young lady was eating much more than it seemed she could hold in her stomach. As I watched the young lady continued to eat, more and more. Finally she excused herself from the table (I didn't see anyone else but apparently there were others there) and went to the bathroom, locked the door, stuck her finger down her throat, gagged, and vomited the meal completely. I was very disturbed by what I saw, but it didn't end there. The young lady then came out, went to the refrigerator, took out skim milk and some ice, put it into a blender with powered chocolate, and mixed into a kind of milkshake and drank it.
 

The Lord gave me an understanding that what I was seeing was the affects of bulimia nervosa, a very common eating disorder. In my research I found the following on bulimia nervosa:
 

Some symptoms are:

-Person binge eats

-Feels out of control while eating

-Vomits, misuses laxatives

-May shoplift, be promiscuous, and abuse alcohol, drugs, and credit cards

Bulimia can kill. Even though the person puts up a cheerful front, s/he is often depressed, lonely, ashamed and empty inside. Friends of bulimics may describe them as competent and fun to be with, but underneath, where they hide their guilty secrets, they are hurting. Feeling unworthy, they have great difficulty talking about their feelings, which almost always include anxiety, depression, self-doubt, and deeply buried anger.
 

This is a terrible affliction which affects many in the natural, but the Lord has also given me an understanding that there are "spiritual bulimics" as well as natural ones. These spiritual bulimics take in good "food" (the Word, sermons, prophecies, etc) but because of sin in their lives which they are unwilling to give up because of the way the may "look" so they "vomit" up what they have taken in instead of letting it "digest" into their souls. They then take in "skim milk" (watered down Gospel) and mix it with something sweet to make it palatable. But this "diet" only leads to death.

Many are unwilling to give up whatever sin is the root; often it can be a security blanket from a past hurt, anger, or rejection. But if not given up it always becomes an object of idol worship, which is sin. The only answer to this affliction, both natural and spiritual, is repentance and giving up our idols.
 

Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and He saveth them out of their distresses. He sent His Word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.
