fade to grey
Having selected Fade to Grey as the first Polydor Visage single,  to be released on the same day as our debut album,  to november 1980,  we had to shoot the video.
With the directors Kevin Godley and Lol Creme I came up with a storyline for the video in which make-up came to life and changed my body.  My eyebrow turned into a snake,  and my arms were painted like a snakeskin.  My arms went round a girl, played by my friend  from Blitz,  Princess Julia,  making her arms become snakes.  Then my arms became a snake,  the snake bit me and I died and faded to grey.
Coming up with the idea for the clothes after meeting Melissa Caplan and Stephen Jones,  was one thing, but then we had to film it.  It was a long, hard process.  I had to shave my whole body to be painted at the beginning of the day´s shoot.  I was painted silver,  and scales were painted on my arms  -  it was all very intricate.  It was hot too,  standing around all day covered in greasepaint.  At the end of the day,  I had to rub myself down with a Brillo pad and turps to get the paint off,  and I was totally knackered.  A lot of work gots into making a three-minute pop video
