    Hole On Cylinder

    How do I place a hole on the side of a cylinder?

    - Pankaj Bhalerao, Design Engineer, Aurangabad.





    Start the Cutout     or the Hole     command.

    Pick the Parallel plane     option on the Ribbon Bar.

    Select a vertical plane as shown in figure.





    Pick the Silhoute point     option from the keypoint flyout on the Ribbon Bar.

    Create a plane as shown in figure.





    In the sketcher, draw a circle/hole and click the Horizontal/Vertical     geometric relationship tool.

    Select the center of the circle as the first point.





    Select the pierce point of the top face of the cylinder as the second point.

    This always keeps the hole in the center horizontally and saves you an extra dimension.






    Dimension the circle/hole and the vertical distance of the circle/hole center from the top face of cylinder.

    See figure.





    Click Finish on the ribbon bar.

    Complete the cutout/hole to get the desired hole.





    Apparent Dimension ?

    How do I dimension to a Theoretical Intersection ?

    The apparent intersection of two lines is a non-existant point (not a point entity)

    Solid Edge does not allow you to dimension between points that are not part of an entity.

    In other words, you cannot dimension from/to a point in the sketcher just by cliking in empty space.

    In such cases, create a point entity     at the apparent intersection.

    Toggle the nascent point to Construction     and dimension from/to the point entity.





    Data Sharing with AutoCAD ?

    How can I share data with someone on regular AutoCAD ?

    This involves transferring data from Solid Edge Draft to AutoCAD.

    To do this, first save your Draft file and select File SaveAs...

    Select AutoCAD Documents (*.dwg) from the Save as type pull-down list.

    To specify the AutoCAD version to save to (ACAD 2000, R14, etc), click the Options... button below.

    Select the required version in the first step of the wizard and click Finish and then click Save.
