    The Sensor

This is the second in the series of tutorials on sensors. the previous instalment discussed application of surface area sensor in a orifice.

In this tutorial you learn how to setup a study to analyse the effect of angle on fluid flow through a channel.

    The Channel

In a new Part document, create a sketch in one of te vertical planes.

Make the two vertical sides equal and also the two angles (100 deg.)

    Equal Angles

To make the angles equal, make one of the angle dimension to 100 deg.

Then, double-click the other angle dimension and then the 100 deg. angle dimensions.

Click Accept     on the ribbon bar. This will make the other angle dimension driven by the 100 deg dimension.

    See figure on right.

    Create The Channel

Use the Extruded Surface command on the Surfacing toolbar to create a surface from the sketch.

    Make the surface symmetric Extents.

    See figure.

    Complete The Channel

Use the Thicken command to create the channel.

You will changes the angle to tweak the surface area of flow.

To visualize this, create a Bounded Surface using the Include command and drawing a horizontal line in a vertical reference plane.

    See figure.

    Set up the Sensor

Take the Sensors tab in the EdgeBar.

Click the Surface Area Sensor button.

    Specify the Surface Area

Click the bounded surface as the surface area to sense.

Click Accept     on the Ribbon Bar.

    Build the Interface

Give any suitable name to the Sensor.

Fill the other required details as shown in figure.

    Click OK.

    Using the Sensor

Now its time to start experimenting.

Right-Click on the Sensors tab in the Edgebar and select Tear Off - resize and tuck away the Sensor window.

By doing this you can use the Feature PathFinder and the Sensor tabs at the same time to tweak and view results in real time.

    Using the Sensor

Right-Click the sketch and select Dynamic Edit from the shortcut menu.

Change the Angle value (the green driving dimension) and notice the Sensor updaet the surface area and hence the fluid flow through the channel.
