Share your memories of the 40th reunion: The 40th Reunion

The 40th reunion was held November 24 & 25, 2006, at the Sunset Beach House on Treasure Island.   If you didn't join us you missed a great time.  There were about forty attendees Friday night, several drop-ins Saturday afternoon and about 50 people on Saturday night.

We used XM Satellite radio set to the sixties channel for music.  Friday night from 4 to 9 pm they re-created a  WLCY (AM 1380) broadcast.  The re-creation included music, station IDs, local ads and promos from 1965.  Some brought good memories ("God, I went to that concert!") and some brought other memories ("Damn, I used to take my first ex-wife to that place.").

Saturday night Mr Safransky (well, it's Dr Safransky now and damn if he doesn't look younger than most of us)  took the stage to host.  He started with a speech reminiscent of his Americanism vs Communism classes, gave a fun quiz, and led us in reciting the Seminole version of The Night Before Christmas.

The weather was great both nights and we had a fire in the sand for those who might have felt a chill.

The food was wonderful as well.  Friday night was a fish fry with fish that was caught and cleaned that afternoon, black beans, yellow rice and Caesar salad.  Saturday nght was catered by Boss Hog Ribs and included BBQ ribs & chicken, cole slaw, collard greens, black-eye peas, corn and baked beans.  Saturday and Sunday mornings we met for breakfast down the street at Caddy's on the Beach.

But, most of all, the weekend was re-connecting with our past.  Seeing and talking to classmates we hadn't seen in years, meeting (or re-meeting) their significant others, catching up on children and grand-children, sharing "what ever happened to" information, and just gabbing.

All in all a great, great time.

Thank you Reunion Committee for a great reunion.  You found a great spot for it, the food was delicious, seeing schoolmates is always fun, and thank you for all the hard work you put into it.  Thank you Bob for keeping the reunion fun and bringing all your favorite toys to it.  Dr. Safransky did a great job.  He still has all his enthusiasm.
