Day 1: Poverty Background
The 8th graders fill out an opinion worksheet on the reasons why they think people are poor.
The girls listen intently.
Kathryn, Andrea, and Sonya talk to the kids about poverty in the world.
Day 2: Minimum Wage Budget Planning
Kathryn writes the monthly expenses the students will be balancing on their minimum wage budget of $5.25/hr.
Andrea looks on as the class is hard at work.
Sonya assists a student.
Day 3: Notecard Build
**The notecards were symbolic in the sense that some corners had been cut from different colored cards, representing the financial state of different countries. Each group was given a different color and then instructed to build the tallest tower.
The green group was victorious with no corners cut from their notecards.
The pink group did well with only one corner cut.
Poor purple group. They had all four corners cut.
