October 17, 2000

The official opening which was supposed to be on October 8 was rescheduled for part of the first Cultural finals on October 16 at the Cabritts Cruise Ship Berth.

History week was observed October 8-14.
Doctor Lennox Honeychurch, a Dominica Historianl delivered lectures to students focusing on the forts at Capuchin,Cabritts and Fort Young in Roseau.

Other main attractions are the National Parade,The National Youth Rally at Thibaud, the World Creole Music Festival,Heritage Day in Ansede Mai,Miss Wob Douillette Competition,The Cultural Gala and the National Day of community Service
November 2, 2000

The World Creole Music Festival which took place October 27-29 in Festival City, Roseau blasted off with high level entertainment from Africa's SAKIS and the WAILERS on Friday night to
KASSAV and JEAN MICHEL CABRIMOL of Guadeloupe and Martinique on Saturday night to BLACK AFFAIRS with ANTHONY GUSSIE and MIDNIGHT GROOVERS on Sunday night. DOMINICA'S FIRST SERENADE BAND closed out  Friday night's show,WCK closed out Saturday night's show,while a DOMINICA ALL STAR BAND with FITZROY WILLIAMS and FREDDY NICHOLAS closed out Sunday night's show.
They were indeed three pulsating nights to remember of ZOUK, CADENCE,COMPA,CADENCE-LYPSO and more creole rhythms to muster. Five minutes of explosive fireworks lit the skies to start each evenings' extravaganza.
The event was dedicated to the late Prime Minister Honorable
Roosevelt Bernard (Rosie) Douglas who passed away on October 1, 2000. Sensay News will provide its own photos later.

November 3,2000

Prime Minister Pierre Charles delivered his Independence address on Friday November 3, 2000 at the Botanic Gardens, at the parade of uniformed  groups.He announced that he was inviting the prime ministers of the other three Windward Islands to an urgent meeting on bananas at month end.All exporters of bananas have been grappling with falling prices within the banana industry.
Former Prime Minister
Dame Eugenia Charles received the country's highest award of Honour at the Independence
Day Parade. The 81 year old lady said that she was delighted that her contributionto the advancement of Dominica has been recognized and appreciated. Also receiving awards from President
Vernon Shaw were Mr Heskeith Casimir,Reverend William Watty, Deles Warrington, Irma Lafond-Joseph, Doreen Francis , Umpire Billy Doctrove,Pastor/Evangelist Horace Jno Lewis,
Service medals were presented to
Minister Felix Gregoire,Mrs Rhona Fingal and Mr Aborfield Rabess for his contribution to Education.
Long service medals were awarded to Firemen
Gifford Williams, Sylvester Roberts and Police Officers Inspector
KASSAV as they performed at the World Creole Music Festival on Sat Oct 28 in Festival City, Roseau

In other news, 18 year old
Roxanne Frederick of the Carib Territory is Dominica's Miss Wob Douillette2000.
Miss Frederick won over six other contestants representing districts around the island.
