CD HONORS THE LATE ROSIE DOUGLAS (as reported by The Tropical Star 11/1/00) On Wednesday evening, October 25th, prior to the World Creole Music Festival, five CDs were launched at the West Indies Communications Enterprise (WICE) studio.Among them was the Rosie Douglas CD project coordinated by Mr. Gregory Rabess of the Government Information Service(GIS). Mr Gordon Henderson of Exile One fame, and a partner in WICE introduced the Rosie Douglas project but allowed Mr Rabess to expand on it. Mr. Rabess, whose latest CD, Medtjel was released earlier this year by WICE, explained that a group of artists decided to use their creativity to create a song that would pay tribute to the late Prime Minister Douglas' life . He had spoke to Mr. Henderson who then composed the lyrics and involved some other artists who got together to record the song at WICE.. The performers were all volunteers including well known Dominica artists like Ophelia, Proceeds from the sale of the CD would go to the Rosie Douglas Trust for benevolent purposes. Midnight Groovers' Hypocrits was launched by Manager Ed Registe, Triple Kay of Laudat launched their new CD, Big Ting and Dino Toussaint who was born in Portsmouth but grew up in London,England released his 2nd CD "If I had a Wish". Hot Bred was released jointly by producers Yorle Blanc and Dion Norville. According to Groovers Manager Ed Registe, Chubby and the Groovers were practicing at the time for the World Creole Music Festival. Four of the songs Hypocrits, La Police,Zion and Aye Pa Boni had been getting much airplay on the radio. The Groovers had been performing for over thirty years with about 25 albums to their credit. Mr Henderson noted that Triple Kay was a band that wanted to come up with few rhythms including bouyon but did not want to specialise in the bouyon beat. Gary Shillingford spokesperson for Triple Kay added that they already have plans for aother CD to be released in January. |
