SELF DEFENSE
Everyone is a potential victim of an ugly mugging, rape, or murder. It can easily be said that 99 percent of the American public have absolutely no idea how to defend themselves. The FBI reports indicate that a crime is committed every 90 seconds in the United States.
People training in Karate can enjoy the self-confidence of being able to defend themselves against any type of unarmed attack. Of course, no matter how skilled you are, the best way to deal with any confrontation is to flee.
The way you will react can be judged by the way you train in karate. If you practice your self defense with great spirit and put out 100%, you will be sure to be victorious in a real situation. Mastering the art of self defense is not something that can be done easily. It takes the guidance of a good teacher and years of training to develop the proper balance, speed, power, and reflexes to become a formidable force.
My teacher always says that it takes one million repetitions to get a karate technique done the right way so that in a real situation, the moves come out naturally. When practicing, don't hurt your partner, but put all your spirit into the moves as if your partner was a real attacker. As the old saying goes, "He who hesitates is lost". In Karate we say, "He who hesitates is dead."
