Boston Latin Academy - Horikawa High School
Study Exchange Program
The second school-to-school exchange program with BLA's partner school, Horikawa High School in Kyoto, Japan was a great success.  Eight students and I visited Kyoto from April 16 to 27, 2003.

During our stay in Kyoto, we were warmly welcomed and given a tremendous amount of support both by Horikawa and the host families.  In addition Horikawa's PTA was involved in this proram, making our trip even more valuable.  Because of their efforts, our students were given many unique first hand learning opportunities, such as spending a night in a traditional Japanese house called "Kyo no Machiya", and visiting of of the oldest incense manufacturing companies in Japan, Shoyeido.  They gained a deeper understanding and knowledge of Japan, made many new friends and came home with wonderful momories.  They attended school with their host brothers and sisters evey day and learned about day-to-day life in Japan.  They joined some classes at Horikawa, such as gym, calligraphy, homemaking, and English.  They also joined various after school activities.

We were also warmly received by representatives of the City of Kyoto, the Boston's oldest sister city, and were invited to visit city officials.  We deeply appreciate all support given by people of Kyoto to make our trip successful.  Doomo Arigatoo!  We will surely come back to Kyoto agian!
