He was a brainy scholar who preferred to read than to practice martial arts. When he was fourteen, he was wedded to Meiran to become the heir of her clan. One day, she came out to his favorite meadow and began to demand why he didn't fight. He replied by asking what she fought for. Upon hearing her response of "justice", he fought her and won to prove that there was no such thing. He informed her that she had chosen an arrogant name for herself, since she insisted on being called 'Nataku'. Master O chided him, informing him that he had not changed Meiran's mind, just forced his conclusions on her. Wufei snarled about Master O's "Piece of junk". Mildly, Master O asked him to name the Gundam. "Shenlong. Nataku is too weak to be the Dragon Clan's guardian spirit." The Alliance ordered that the inhabitants of the colony be swept out. Meiran went to defend her home, luring OZ's MS away from the meadow. Wufei went after her, protecting her. Despite his help, Meiran suffered fatal wounds. He granted both of her final requests, taking her to his meadow, and by never referring to her as anything other than Meiran. He vowed to fight as she died in his arms...to uphold her justice.
