4th of July Celebration
Regardless of what day of the week this holiday falls on, this tried and true celebration
is always held on the 4th of July.  The celebration is held at Wilson Park located in Torrance, California at 2200 Crenshaw Blvd.(between Carson St. & Sepulveda Blvd.).

During the Celebration you will find over
300 artist booths selling many different hand crafted and commercial wares from candles and quilts to jewelry, hats and sometimes even kites.  A wonderful way to spend the day, browsing through the many booths on a sunny day in a beautiful park.  Be forewarned, sun screen is a must.  It usually gets pretty hot here.  But rest assured that when that certain craving hits you, you'll not have very far to look.  There are also many food booths throughout the park selling cold drinks, corn on the cob, hamburgers and hot dogs, and yes, the elusive ICE CREAM.

For those with children, there are sometimes even craft and activity booths to keep easily bored little ones entertained.  There are also scheduled dog agility shows that always prove to keep small children mesmerized.  There are even sack-race type activities to partake in after the dog shows.  If that still isn't enough to occupy you for a day, there is also a pond in the park where you can spend some time feeding the ducks and watching the turtles swim, you can hunker down and listen to one of the many bands playing throughout the day in the Gazeebo, or you can make your way over to the west end of the park where there will be more musical entertainment from Noon until 9:00PM.  And last but not least, the Southern California Live Steamers-Torrance Division will be offering free train rides on a minature steam train at the east end of the park near the picnic area from Noon until 4:00PM.

All said, the fair runs from 11:00AM to 9:00PM ending in a glorious 1/2 hour long fireworks show that starts at 9:00pm.  Come early for a chance to find a seat.  The fields fill up quickly in the late afternoon with people spreading out their blankets to assure themselves a viewing spot in the park.  Although the fair doesn't officially kick off until 11AM, the park is open and you are more than welcome to come early.  Admission is
FREE.  However there is a $5.00 dollar parking fee for those who arrive early and choose to park in the Wilson Park parking lots.  For those who wish to save their money for that ice cream, there is a free shuttle service that will bring you to the park from FREE parking areas at both the Del Amo Mall and the Torrance Civic Center.  The shuttle starts at 9:00AM, but please note that the shuttle service stops at 10:00PM and if you miss the buses you'll have no other way than with your feet to get back to your car.  I do not have a map handy that shows the mall and Civic Center in relation to the park, but if you are in need, just send me an email and I'll mail one off to you as soon as the fliers are printed up and I have them in my hands.
