Hurricane Charley-During the eye of the storm, Dan and I went out to check damage, debris from trees was everywhere. Shingles were also a common sight.
Hurricane Charley-During the eye of the storm. The next door neighbor lost the oak tree in their front yard. Thankfully it missed their house.

Hurricane Charley-During the eye of the storm. The same neighbor that lost the oak in their front yard, had one in their back yard crack in half. They were again lucky that it missed the house.
Hurricane Charley-During the eye of the storm. The neighbor to the west, TV antenna did fall when the second part of the storm hit, missing both our houses.
Hurricane Charley-During the eye of the storm. The neighbor that lost all the trees shown, more of the broken limbs visible.
Hurricane Charley-During the eye of the storm. Our oak tree in the front yard rubbed off a ton of shingles. Later it was found out to be $8000 worth of storm damage.
Hurricane Charley-During the eye of the storm. The neighbors lost oak at a different angle. Water still floods the street some.
Hurricane Charley, the day after on my way out of the neighborhood. This is the back side of Holiday mobile home park. It was hit by a small tornado, several dwellings destroyed.

Hurricane Charley-next day. Just crossed Toledo blade entering Murdock. This was my first real sign of damage,I was on my way to work, to help clean up the mess. This is Port Charlotte Florist, they lost their sign and the billboard next to their store.
Hurricane Charley-next day. Murdock industrial park, and Light Ideas Inc. They lost their roof, it was peeled back like a can of sardines.
Hurricane Charley-next day. Apple Bees had some damage, and of course had no power for a couple days. Murdock not getting as much damage as actually Port Charlotte. Port Charlotte was without power for 2 weeks.
Hurricane Charley-next day. Gold Bank, which also hosts the Social Security office, lost it's roof. Shame you can't see more of that. The top 2 floors had to be gutted, it took them almost a year to open those floors for business again.
Hurricane Charley-next day. The Shell station, that unluckily just remodeled, next to the Gold Bank building, was hurt pretty bad too. It was a week before they could open. The only gasoline in Port Charlotte and Murdock was the Hess station that is across from the town center mall. But that wasn't until they got power back to Murdock with in 2 days. If you needed fuel, you had to make a trip to my home town, North Port, or even further north to Venice.
Hurricane Charley-next day. Books a Million, next to the Shell station in Murdock. The roof was totally destroyed, and shame you can't see the pieces of it EVERYWHERE in this pic. The store never re-opened.
Hurricane Charley-next day. FPL working their asses off, they did an amazing job. The street lights needed to be repair all the way from this light in Murdock into Punta Gorda. In most places they snapped off and were laying in the road. Lines were down, it was a big mess.
Hurricane Charley-next day. This building lost most of it's roof, it's just north of Forest Nelson BLVD on US 41 in Murdock.

Hurricane Charley-next day. Also just north of Forest Nelson BLVD on US41 was a 'Grease Monkey' Oil change place. If you look thru the doors on the front you can see the sky, that is because the roof and the back half of the building fell in. You can see part of the roof in the trees, and see a power pole snapped in half.
Hurricane Charley-next day. On the south corner of Forest Nelson BLVD on US 41 is an Amsouth back. They got a lot of damage too. And if you look at the trees in the background, and powerlines, you can see obvious damage.
Hurricane Charley-next day. On the other south corner of Forest Nelson BLVD on US 41 is Eyeglass world. They really got hit. The building was gutted down to the walls and rebuilt. It's back open now.
Hurricane Charley-next day. This business is almost on the corner of Midway BLVD and US41. I thought the writing on the boards was amusing. Later thru the year, they kept crossing out the names of each storm and painting the new name on. I think it was up to about 5 names before hurricane season was over.

You have only seen one roll of film so far, keep checking back as I add more. I took 6 rolls altogether, and cost of developing kept me from getting the prints sooner. But I have 3 more rolls to add, and 3 more rolls to develope, more ARE coming.
