ADVERBIAL CLAUSE OF PURPOSE (so that)

a) I’m going to the market in order to buy a few things.

b) My father has given me some money so that I can buy a few things in the market.

In the first sentence, the person who is going to the market is the same as the person who is going to buy a few things. So we express the purpose with to + infinitive. But in the second sentence there is a main clause and an adverbial clause. The subjects of these clauses are different. So we use the conjuntion so that + a clause.
