As someone so helpfully pointed out to me, today is Father's Day.
…
Crud.
Well, at least my complete absentmindedness isn't going to be a complete surprise to anybody. In fact, I think most people would have been more surprised had I not forgotten. Still, I feel really bad about completely goofing up like that. Sorry Dad, sorry Pa. Um… I'll send you some mochi to make up for it… or something…
Well, aside from that, this has been another slow Sunday. There just isn't a lot to talk about when the majority of the day is spent in sleep and study. I suppose I could always vent some more about what a horrible book Shogun's Ghost was, but since I made all the salient arguments I needed yesterday, all I would be doing is griping irritably, and I do enough of that as it is.
I suppose I could talk about the good book I've been flipping through instead. Modern Japan Through Its Weddings: Gender, Person, and Society in Ritual Portrayal is a lot more enjoyable than Shogun's Ghost, and not just because it isn't pushing an agenda. The author, Walter Drew Edwards, was the grandson of Japanese Immigrants, and after college he traveled to Japan to meet his relatives there. He ended up staying for several years, and for a good part of that time worked in a marriage hall. That then lead to him researching how marriage practices have changed over the last few years (especially following WWII), and how it reflected on the changes in society as a whole. As well, reading this serves the function of familiarizing me with the whole process of Japanese weddings, an important subject for me to acquaint myself with, since one of the more important Gospels is going to revolve around one (if that sentence meant nothing to you, don't worry, it's an inside thing of little real world importance).
And now it is late, and I still have homework to finish. Since it was a slow day, please forgive the short entry.
