No Shells Snails have shells so that they can hide from nasty critters...turned inside. Armadillos fold up into a ball, fooling enemies, one and all. Clams and oysters open just to snap protecting tender places, where it's at. So many of God's creatures just surviving, but for human beings there is no hiding. There's a message in this fact of life, we aren't supposed to hide from strife. And yet too many build their shells, with walls and bars, creating hells. Layers and layers of barriers there, so none can enter, none can care. Keeping out all the joys of existence, making all keep their distance. Denser and thicker the walls for all the bigger they are, the harder to fall. If God had meant for us to hide, we'd have shells to crawl inside. If only people knew for pain to cease, their only hope for love is in release. Kay Elaine Ekwall copyright l999 |

Light The Candle And then... we draw back. For it seems..as they are judging others so will they judge us. Our thoughts, our feelings our openess feels naked. Like a snail out of its' shell. And yet, by exposing ourselves we expose them too. Their harshness sharpens in the light For it is dark, so dark...... so cold without light. What can we feel, but pity. What can we give but the chance to light once more the candle and hope and wait ....and love. Kay Elaine Ekwall copyright l987 |

Taking Off The Mask Aha! I thought, now...I'll find me and discover within the mystery. I looked into a mirror to view who was that, looking at you? Carefully each step was taken no mistakes to be maken. From the left, pulled away that mask to discover the truth I had asked. Years of toiling at this chore, peeled away, to uncover...more! Under that mask, tattered and torn, another was there, laughing with scorn! Crying with tears at my simplicty, then a new challenge to discover me. Layers and layers, each tossing aside till I thought, surely no more could hide! Each one represented a new facet in stone, some needed polishing, some left alone. Shifting my attitude, so important here now looking forward to see what was there. Each face, though different, from others before, got lighter and easier as I trusted more. This lesson, the hardest..I came to see..is that Gods face is in each, I pretended to be. Kay Elaine Ekwall copyright l999 |

Guideposts Along the path of life's journey stationed...here and there irratically, there are guideposts...waiting for us. Upon reaching them, we stop.... we ponder life's messages, were we have been, what we have done with our lives, where we would like to go. If there is a fork in the road, which one should we take? The guideposts are sublte and.. can be missed so easily. Our whole lives, our futures can be changed in an instant, if we are aware and observe these moments of choices. It would be nice if the guideposts had mileage charts on them.. you have come this far, only these many miles to go until you are home. But, they don't do that! For that would ruin the experience of the journey, and we would be looking into the past and the future, not focusing on the present. Instead, the guideposts wait for us patiently to get there, and, if we are ready... to point us gently in this direction or that, if we listen. There are those who never see, never look or hear.. and their paths are convoluted, and appear endless.. too rocky to climb. For some it is a matter of age, that life had taught them some wisdom and they need to stand still, be in that quiet place so they can see their guideposts. We all have those signs, quiet whisperings in our ears, but...we don't always listen.. and that is ok too. We all learn our lessons and head for home.. eventually. Kay Elaine Ekwall copyright l999 |
