I've always been interested in words and language, both use and origins. I began learning a foreign language (Hebrew) before I even entered elementary school and I often heard Yiddish spoken in my home as I was growing up.
In high school I studied French - just to be different, because everyone else took Spanish. (This *is* Texas, after all!) I became fairly proficient in French after a stint as an exchange student. I lived in Cagnes sur Mer, a small town located on the French Riviera near Cannes and Nice.
I also studied Russian in high school (my grandparents were from Russia) and Spanish and Italian in college. I had intended to get a degree in French, but the way things worked out I ended up with a major in History and a minor in French.
My love of language seems to have rubbed off on my children. My son, Steve, learned to read at the age of three. He is a voracious reader and is now considering a degree in English. I'm proud to say that he is a very talented artist, musician, and writer. My oldest daughter, Shannon, always seems to have her nose buried in a book - especially if it's a Harry Potter book! Her younger sisters, Jade and Aly, are definitely following in her footsteps. No matter where we go, we are accompanied by at least one book!
I'm not yet sure exactly what direction this website will take, so bear with me while it goes through its growing pains. I have a few ideas and hope to be able to put it all together quickly, but if my experience with my other websites is any indication, I'll still be fiddling with it years from now...LOL
