Full Name: Arne Philip Bailis

Called: Arne. Pronounced with a silent e.

Status: Commoner.

Age and date of birth: Aged 22, born on December 10th (modern calendar).

Place of birth: Lea. A tiny village on the other side of Long Lake, situated roughly opposite to Feif Dunlath.

Current Residence: Currently without residence.

Fighting Skills: He and his father worked a variety of jobs, ranging from trapper to hunter to woodsmen and fisherman. Through that he's become apt in a variety of discplines. His favourite and the one that he's most skilled in are knives. He's quick, and he's deceptively strong. A pretty lethal combination when it comes to knives. He's also good with a bow and arrow, he can hit both still and a moving target with accuracy. He can wrestle with larger opponents. A skill that his father drilled him in, because it could save his life if it came down to a contest between an angry animal and himself. But, he's fairly useless when it comes to hand-to-hand combat. Also, he can run fairly quickly and over long distances.

Magic: He's ungifted, but he does have a small amount of wild magic. He is able to tell when there are animals around, within a range of about 100 metres. He can also tell an animal's general demeanor and current emotional status. He knows if an animal's placid, or about to attack out of anger and frustration. He knows if an animal's hungry or thirsty. He can tell when an animal's in pain. He can't speak to animals and he has no influence over their demeanor, their mind or their actions. He certainly can't shape shift. His wild magic is only strong enough to manifest in a connection with animals.

Occupation: He doesn't have one. But, he can and has worked as a hunter, a trapper, woodsman, tracker and a fisherman. These jobs have provided him with a multitude of skills. He's a good fighter. He's strong. He has decent knowledge of herb and bush medicine. As a hunter, he also learned the skills of a tanner, and how to carve jewelry from bone. He's able to navigate through forest and survive if need be on what the forest and wood produces. His wild magic makes him a good worker with animals. He's multiskilled, and currently for hire.

Important people:

Esther Gylard - Mother - A servant girl at Fief Dunlath. Esther's never really been around, let alone been a mother figure in his life. She gave birth to him, then dumped him with his father because she couldn't look after him, being just a servant girl. She's stayed out of his life since then.

Bracken Bailis - Father (deceased) - His father died around two years ago. He received a wound from an animal trap laid by another trapper, the wound festered and he died from infection. A strong man, who took his son to every job with him, teaching him and giving him skills that no other life could provide. Arne has great respect for his father and he places great value on the time that he spent with his father. His father's death broke him for a little while.

Nevena Bailis - Step Mother - Oh how he hates her. One of those women who always like to be first and to get what she wants. Pushy, confident, deceptive, manipulative and spoilt. Bracken and Nevena married when Arne was ten years old. Before Nevena, Arne and his father were all each other had. After Nevena, the only time they got to spend with one another was when they went out on a job. Arne clearly resented that. That resentment eventually turned into hate.

Lian Bailis - Step Sister - She's a bitch who's used to getting her own way, and if she doesn't get her own way she turns snappy and nasty. Her mother spoilt her and treated her as if she was somehow better than Arne and everybody else, and consequently that's how she acts. She was always badgering Bracken to take her with him, but he wouldn't bend on this, she grew intensly jealous of Arne. They don't have the most stable brother and sister relationship.

Appearance:

Hair: Thick brown hair, that's got a shaggy quality to it. It tends to make people want to flatten it, or tidy it up. He wears it medium length with his fringe reaching eye level and the hair line trailing half way down his neck. His crown tends to always want to stick up and his side burns are long enough to get into his ears, though he cuts them so that they don't stretch down his face.

Eyes: Blue in colour, though his pupils are surrounded by a brown coloured ring. Deepset and a little almond shaped, though more so due to the fact that they're long and narrow. Certainly not big in terms of wide, but they're fantastically long. His eyes are framed in thick black lashes that are surprisingly dainty and pretty.

Face: An oval shaped face with strong bone definition. High, defined cheek bones that fill out his cheeks and add personality to his face. A strong, precise jaw line that ends in a long dimpled chin. He has a brow that rolls inwards to his scalp. His nose, slightly lumpy in several places from breaks. Though, quite small and a perfect fit for his face. He has great lips with the both top and bottom being of the same thickness, though the top curves more sharply. Not unlike the top of a love heart. He keeps a short moustache that creeps all the way up to meet his nostrils and a a line of stubble along his chin. He thinks it makes him look older and adds to his shabby look.

Other: He's got several scars from various injuries recieved while working. Most notably, one across the length his left shoulder and a small one on his back, around his kidney area. Both invisible under clothing. Also, he wears a polished back bears claw on a thin strip of leather that serves as a necklace. It's from a bear that he and his father worked together to hunt and kill, so it has sentimental value, and also looks good too.

Personality:

Distant and impassive. He's quiet, though not the kind of shy quiet, more the quiet of someone who doesn't generally have a great deal to say. He's just as happy sitting alone, than he is in the company of another. He approaches people, conversations and situations with detachment. It isn't that he is incapable of connecting with others on an emotional level, or feeling any empathy. He's actually very aware of it. Aware enough to be able to step back and choose whether or not to engage with it. Because of this he comes across as indifferent and uncaring. He's very smart. Not the book learned smart or the kind of intelligence that you get from books and study. It's more a natural intelligence. It manifests in his ability to read people and their emotions, to chose whether or not to engage with them on an emotional level and in the variety of skills that he's acrued. He can do things that others can't, like carving jewelry from bone, or navigate and survive in the woods, shoot a bow and arrow with accuracy, and he's a tiny little bit smug about it.

Also, he's very hands on. He likes to take things apart and put them back together a different way to see if they still serve the same purpose, or he can get them to serve a completely different purpose. When he's alone he constantly needs to be doing things. Carving jewelry from bone, mending things, pulling things apart, putting things back together. He's always got some kind of private project happening. He has great respect for nature and wildlife, but more because it's a great source of income and the provider of a career and skill set that he loves to pieces. He's certainly not an animal saving, environmentalist, though he's most at home in the wild. His Wild magic is just this innate, untrained connection with animals. He's aware that it has a name and that it's a form of magic, but to be honest, he couldn't care less. It's another skill that he can put to use and enjoy having. He likes to move. He'll practice his fighting, he'll go for a walk or he'll run if he wants to. He has large amounts of stamina. He doesn't like being idle and has little respect for those who are idle. He views it as laziness.

His own mind is well guarded. Very rarely will he let people in on what he's thinking or on what's going on in his brain. He tends to hold back his opinions and thoughts. He's generally emotionally unresponsive, even to admissions of love, crying or upset people or happy good things that happen in his life. Not because he doesn't have emotions, but rather out of a need to control them, rather than let them control him and his reactions to things. He's good at purposefully not becoming emotionally attached to people, or where he can't help it, he's good at not showing it. In a way, he's very self-centered. A trait that's developed after the death of his father. He fits the self-centered label very loosely though. He's at the center of his own world. He will always do what's best for him even if it's not necessarily what's best for others.

Also, he isn't fantastic at relationships. His mind is so guarded and he's so emotionally unresponsive and closed that it's difficult to get any kind of indication as to what he's feeling. And he always puts himself and his own well-being first. It doesn't make for a healthy, balanced relationship. It also doesn't help that he's not in the least bit romantic. He'll give gifts for birthdays, but not without cause or reason. He likes women, he'll flirt and he'll tease if he feels the need. But, he can flirt and can tease and yet appear completely indifferent to their reaction to it. He's fine with casual girlfriends, but he'll avoid getting involved with someone on a deeper level. In terms of friendships. He doesn't make friends instantly. There are more people that he'll tolerate and simply interact with, than there are those he considers to be friends. He will do a lot for his friends, as long as it's also what's best for him.

He's incredibly laid back and casual. Nothing really fazes him in the slightest. He's just not bothered by sarcasm, arrogance, and meanness. Nothing seems to flare his temper, in fact, he just doesn't seem to have one. Deceptiveness, betrayal and people making a fool of him, are met with indifference. But, he has a fantastic memory for these things. He stores them away for future reference, and people tend to find that these things come back and bite them on the arse at some point in time.

All of this makes him sound like a bastard, but he's really not. He won't go out of his way to be cruel and mean, especially when there's no point to it. He likes to fight because of the thrill, the adrenalin and the moving about. But, he doesn't go looking for a fight and he'll only use it in practice, in a competitive spirit or in self-defense. Only when people betray him or are mean sarcastic arses to him that he seeks some kind of revenge at some point in time. Mostly, he's not a bad person.

History:

A very quick run down. Dumped on his father's door step when only a few weeks old, the result of a one night stand. His father raised him alone until he was ten years old. Up to then he had the best childhood a boy could have. Bracken took him everywhere, out on every job, teaching him the skills of every job along the way. Spending most of his childhood in the forest or on the move. Things changed for him when Bracken met and married Nevena and Lian came into his life.

He was no longer the sole recipient of his father's attention and he began to resent Nevena for it. While, he and Lian simply didn't get along. In the end, he learned to treat his step mother and his step sister with indifference. As a teenager, while out on a job hunting with his father, due to bad weather they spent several days holed up in a tiny village on the edge of the wood. An old man commented on Arne's connection with animals, put two and two together and come to the conclusion that it was wild magic. Arne just shrugged and continued on with his life as it was. To know what it is means little to him.

As Arne got older, working with his father changed from being an older adult educating a young boy, to being more of a partnership. He still learnt a lot from his father and his respect for his father grew, but Bracken began to see Arne as his own man. At the age of twenty Bracken went out hunting, alone. He recieved a wound from an animal trap laid by another trapper. The wound was severe enough to ensure that he couldn't walk, let alone make it all the way home. Days passed, when his father hadn't returned home Arne went searching. He found his father's body. The wound had festered and Bracken had died from infection.

Losing his father broke his heart, though not openly. Outwardly he remained solid and strong. Nevena and Lian made it all the more worse, by refusing to understand Arne's grief and demanding that he stay and work to provide for them. They even tried telling him that it was his father's wish that he do so. He refused before packing his things and leaving. But, Lian followed out of spite and jealousy more than anything. He's currently travelling around the cities picking up what work he can and just seeing the sights. Lian following him.
