Episode 167

We see Hotaru, still a baby, in a crib outside a house; cherry blossoms are blowing in the wind, and everything is bright, happy and sunny. Hotaru seems fascinated by the blossoms; as she stares at them, she has a vision of Sailor Moon, in her (not yet existing) Eternal outfit, standing on top of some big spiky thing.

Sailor Moon says, "I'm the one that wraps everything. I'm the senshi born from everyone's love, Eternal."

Tomoe-sensei, with white hair, appears and picks up Hotaru. Then he turns around and sees Setsuna standing behind him. Setsuna says, "Hotaru, I've come to pick you up."

[TITLE SCREEN]

Usagi is in a park, looking up at the sky; she hears her name called and turns around to see the other four Senshi. She runs to them; everybody seems to be in high spirits. They are wearing new school uniforms, as they were going to Juuban High School.

Usagi says, "I'm happy that I can be with everyone."

Minako was happy to be going to the same school as Usagi, Mako, and Ami. Usagi and Minako were both happy that they will have someone who will get low scores with them. Mako was happy that the tests were over. When Rei comments about that, Ami, Usagi, and Minako point out that Rei's school is an elevator system, so she didn't have to take the entrance tests like the others.

Rei is still going to T*A Private Girls' School, so her sailor suit is the same grey one as before.

Mamoru and Chibi-Usa show up, and everyone says Hi; then Chibi-Usa announces that it's time for her to go home to Crystal Tokyo.

Meanwhile, Neherenia is satisfied that she can remain beautiful forever in her place. But a voice appears and says that it's a waste to keep such beauty locked up.

Neherenia says, "Who are you?"
The voice says, "I'm the one who will grant your wishes."

Then the owner of the voice broke the seal, and Neherenia was freed.

That night, the five Senshi, the cats, Mamoru and Chibi-Usa are in the park to say good-bye to Chibi-Usa and Diana as they leave. Artemis is draped backwards over Minako's shoulder; when he turns around, we see that he's sobbing over the departure of Diana.

Chibi-Usa pulls out her Time Key, and goes through the magic words to open the door through time. A beam of light appears and shoots up to the sky behind her; she pauses to say her final good-byes to everyone.

Neherenia, floating overhead, sees the beam of light; a disc appears in front of her and she sees images of Chibi-Usa, the Senshi, and Mamoru. Neherenia remembers the events at the end of SMSS, where Sailor Moon and Sailor Chibi-Moon dive off the building; presumably, she recognizes the Senshi in their civilian identities.

Neherenia says, "It can't be! They can't be alive!"

The voice tells Neherenia that she should be the queen of earth. Neherenia gets madder and madder. "I can't forgive them."

Prompted by the disembodied voice, Neherenia screams and produces her own soul-mirror. The voice says, "Shatter it. Then your revenge will be complete."

Then Neherenia shatters the mirror. The mirror explodes into thousands of tiny shards, which start to fall towards the ground.

In the park, Chibi-Usa is about to step into the beam of light, when falling stars appear in the sky (actually the mirror shards, of course.) Everyone looks up; most of them seem to think they're pretty, but Rei has a bad feeling about them.

Mamoru says, "It's strange that there's so much."
Ami says, "There's too many."

As everyone is looking up, Mamoru gets one of the shards in his eye. Usagi asks him if he's OK, and he says he's fine, but as he does, his eye flashes with an odd golden light. Usagi sees this and is puzzled; but at that moment, Chibi-Usa's light beam flickers and goes out. Chibi-Usa and the others are shocked by this, and wonder what could have caused it.

[CM break]

We see a tall building at night; in the background, shards are still falling. Inside the building is an aquarium; Haruka and Michiru are here. They talk for a while, teasing each other gently, then step outside, into a courtyard area on top of the building. There are several other people here, mostly couples necking on the benches. The shards are still falling.

Michiru looks in her talisman-mirror, and gets a brief image of something covering the moon.

Michiru says, "I felt an evil energy coming close to the moon."
Haruka says, "The enemy?"
Michiru says, "I don't know. It disappeared right away."

Several of the people on the roof get shards in their eyes and cry out in pain; as Haruka and Michiru are looking about, another shard falls and cuts Haruka's hand. Michiru kisses the wound, then spits out a glass shard into her handkerchief. Haruka sees at and knocks it away, where the shard begins to grow. It quickly grows into a female figure, somewhat reminiscent of Neherenia, with a really irritating giggle. Several other mirror paredory appear around the rooftop, and surround the two.

Just as the mirror paredory are about to attack, Sailor Pluto's Dead Scream attack blasts them all into fragments. Sailor Pluto appears, holding the baby Hotaru.

Sailor Uranus says, "Is it really you, Sailor Pluto?"
Sailor Pluto says, "There is a big warp in the time-line."
Sailor Uranus says, "That's Hotaru, isn't it?"
Sailor Pluto says, "I borrowed her from Professor Tomoe."
Sailor Uranus says, "Why?"
Sailor Pluto says, "It's getting close to the time, when we need her power."

Then the glass fragments start to regenerate into more mirror paredory. Sailor Pluto puts down baby Hotaru in a flower bed, and Haruka and Michiru transform. The three Senshi attack the mirror paredory -- hand- to-hand, this time -- but the fragments keep regenerating. Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune are wondering what to do, when one of the mirror paredory -- in blatant violation of the Time-Out-For-Soliloquies rule -- leaps at Sailor Uranus and knocks her off the roof. Sailor Neptune grabs her by the hand, and is trying to pull her back onto the roof, when Sailor Pluto screams, "Hotaru!" Sailor Pluto is being held by several of the mirror paredory, and one of them is about to kill baby Hotaru.

This proves to be a tactical error. Baby Hotaru looks up at the mirror paredory with big, innocent eyes; then generates an enormous blast of energy and disintegrates it. The Saturn-symbol appears on her forehead, and there's some rather nifty choral background music. We see Sailors Neptune, Uranus and Pluto floating in space. The senshi uniforms of the outer senshi have been modified and upgraded to parallel the similar enhancements the inner senshi acquired from Pegasus in episode 143 of SuperS (heart brooches, star chokers, longer bows, etc).

"A new power is born."

Then energy surrounds them and they appear back on the roof. They do a combined World Shaking-Deep Submerge-Dead Scream attack, and all the mirror paredory are disintegrated for good.

Sailor Neptune says, "Is it a new enemy?"

The three Senshi hear a voice behind them and turn around; it's Hotaru, who has somehow grown to an apparent age af about four.

Hotaru says, "The time for reform has come."

Once again there is an images of Sailor Moon standing on the big crystal spiky thing; then there's some thunder and black lightning, and Sailor Moon is now trapped in vines that have grown up around the big crystal spiky thing.

Hotaru says, "The princess is in danger."

Up above the Earth, the disembodied voice laughs evilly.

Episode 168

Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Sailor Stars episode 168 Usagi and Mamoru are in a park, sitting on a bench; Usagi is holding the string to a mylar balloon. Usagi is talking excitedly, but Mamoru is responding in monosyllables. Usagi realizes this, and starts saying a lot of silly tongue twisters. But Mamoru just keeps replying, "Yes."

Then when Usagi confronts Mamoru, "You haven't been listening to me!" the sunlight reflecting off her balloon seems to be hurting Mamoru, especially in his eye that has the shard in it. He cries out and knocks the balloon away, where it floats off into the sky.

Mamoru seems to come to himself, and he apologizes to Usagi. She's worried about him, but he says he hasn't been feeling too well recently, and says good-bye. Usagi watches him walk away, and says, "Mamo-chan..."

Later, the five girls are in the cafe. They are saying how nice it is to have peace. Ami says that they can concentrate on school work. Rei says that she's studying English on TV. Mako says that she's watching that TV show too, and says that the announcer is very cool. Ami wasn't sure if Rei and Mako were really studying. But Usagi was just worried about Mamoru.

A car drives up to the Tomoe house, and Haruka and Michiru get out. The young Hotaru runs out to greet them, "Haruka papa, Michiru mama." Then she sees a butterfly go by and runs off after it.

Haruka, Michiru, and Setsuna -- who has come out of the house -- talk for a while.
"Hotaru has been growing at an amazing rate."
"Every morning, she's grown a lot."
"It's not just her body, it's her mind too."

Then they suddenly realize that Hotaru is missing. They run through the house, opening doors, until they come together in front of Hotaru's room. They look at each other, nod, and open the door.

Hotaru is inside, holding a glowing energy ball. Setsuna says that Hotaru is simulating the big bang. The ball quickly grows, then clears to show a starry sky, and then the solar system. Then we see the moon, then the moon superimposed over Sailor Moon looking away. Hotaru collapses, and the others rush up to her. Hotaru has a vision of a dark cloud engulfing the moon. Hotaru cries out that she's frightened ("Kowai!"), and Haruka holds her.

Outside the cafe, the other four girls are trying to cheer up Usagi, until they are distracted by a couple of cute guys walking by. Even Usagi notices them... but while the girls are ogling, a reflection of Neherenia appears in the window behind Usagi.

[CM break]

Mamoru is at home, working on his computer (it looks like he's programming in Basic). The phone rings, but he ignores it. His eye flashes with the golden light, and he clutches at it in pain, and throws the keyboard to the floor. He recovers, and looks ruefully at the keyboard. Looking at the dead monitor, he recalls Usagi's words, and remembers her from earlier at the park.

Usagi is in her room, worrying about Mamoru. A reflection of Neherenia appears in the window, and says that she's going to get Usagi. Usagi is startled ("Nani?!"), and looks out the window in time to see a crow fly out of the tree outside. She says, "Mamo-chan..." quietly again.

At the Tomoe house, Michiru comes into a room and tells the other two that Hotaru is fine.

Later, Usagi is asleep in her bed, and Neherenia looks at her from inside the mirror.

We see several views of the city at night... the silhouette of Neherenia is visible in every reflective surface, and we hear her laughing.

Hotaru is asleep in bed, and wakes up to see the reflection of Neherenia in her window. Then she hears a voice, and turns to see Sailor Saturn surrounded by light.

Sailor Saturn says, "Wake up."
Hotaru says, "Who are you?"
Sailor Saturn says, "I'm Sailor Saturn. I'm your protector. The time has some. You have to awaken."

Then Sailor Saturn touches Hotaru's forehead with a ball of light, and Hotaru remembers the events of SMS. The Saturn symbol appears on Hotaru's forehead, and she says quietly, "Watashi ha..."

Haruka, Michiru, and Setsuna are talking in a room, when Hotaru appears in the doorway. She has aged again, and is now the same age as she was in SMS -- her "real" age. The Outer Senshi are rather surprised at this.

Hotaru says, "The danger is approaching the princess. The darkness is approaching."

The next day, at Rei's temple, the Inner Senshi and Chibi-Usa are talking. Rei tells them what had happened the previous day. A mirror starts to tremble, and dark energy appears around it. Rei opens the door, and throws one of her anti-evil scrolls at the mirror, and it quiets down.

The girls say that they have seen a lot of people who are acting strangely near mirrors.

Outside, several shards suddenly appear and transform into mirror paredory. Minako yells for everyone to transform and they transform.

Sailor Moon and Sailor Chibi-Moon do their little speech, "Tsuki ni kawatte oshioki yo!" The mirror paredory attack, and the Senshi retaliate with their attacks (except for Moon and Chibi-Moon, who run away.) The attacks shatter the mirror paredory, but they regenerate instantly and surround the Senshi.

A rose is thrown at several of the mirror paredory, breaking them; Tuxedo Kamen appears leaning casually against a tree, and begins one of his trademark speeches. In the middle of his speech, however, he suddenly clutches his eye and cries out in pain. As the Senshi start to run towards him, all of them except for Moon and Chibi-Moon are seized by mirror paredory.

Sailors Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto appear in the gateway of the temple and go through their introduction speeches; then Sailor Saturn appears behind them, to the great surprise of the Inner Senshi. Sailor Uranus does a World Shaking attack, and the mirror paredory release the four Inner Senshi.

Sailor Moon says, "Why did you come?"
Sailor Pluto says, "Saturn told us about your danger."
Sailor Saturn says, "It's time for you to awaken as the real princess of the moon. Everyone must gather their hearts together."

Sailor Saturn starts to glow with energy. The three Outer Senshi also start to glow, followed by the four Inner Senshi.

Sailor Moon says, "I can feel everyone's power flowing through my body."

The combined power enters Sailor Moon's transformation brooch, and turns it into the moon article. Sailor Moon yells, "Moon Eternal Make Up!" and transforms into Eternal Sailor Moon.

Sailor Moon's wand also transforms into the eternal tial, and she holds it up and beams of light shoot out from it and destroy all the mirror paredory (no attack phrase, oddly enough...) Then Sailor Moon collapses and transforms back into her "normal" Super Sailor Moon guise. Sailor Saturn says, "This is Sailor Moon's real power. I have come to tell you this."

Later, Mamoru and Usagi are outside the door of his apartment. She asks him if he's really all right ("Mamo-chan... honto ni daijobu?") and he says, "I'll be all right if I rest." Then he goes inside. Usagi stands outside, looking worried.

Inside his apartment, Mamoru washes his face, then looks worriedly into the mirror. Mamoru says, "It feel weird. It's like my body isn't mine."

Neherenia's reflection appears in the mirror, wrapped possessively around Mamoru's reflection; she laughs evilly.

Neherenia says, "You're mine. The princess of the white moon, I'll take everything that you love."

Mamoru doesn't respond, but his eye flashes with golden light.

Episode 169

Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Sailor Stars episode 169 A schoolgirl is in her room; the curtains are drawn, and everything is dim. She is staring vacantly into a mirror. The silhouette of Neherenia becomes visible in the mirror, but the girl doesn't respond.

[TITLE SCREEN]

In the Tomoe house, Haruka, Michiru, Setsuna and Hotaru are watching the news on the TV. There were reports of a lot of girls losing energy. Hotaru listens gravely, and then says, "The darkness is coming to the white moon." Michiru looks in her talisman-mirror, and gets a brief image of Mamoru. They all know that it must be related.

Elsewhere, we hear schoolbells, and see Usagi and Minako running frantically up some stairs, as they are late for school. They come to a landing, and a guy with long hair is staring vacantly into a mirror. Usagi yells at him, "You'll be late!" then she and Minako take off up the stairs again. Behind them, one of the guy's eyes flashes with golden light.

Makoto and Ami are in a classroom. They hear footsteps and know that it must be Usagi and Minako. Usagi and Minako, seeing them, screech violently to a halt. They are worried that the teacher will come, but Ami and Mako say that the first class has turned into study hall. There are many girls taking the day off, so the teachers are having an emergency meeting.

Elsewhere, the girl we saw earlier is still staring into her mirror.

Later, the four girls are in the bathroom. As they come out, Makoto stops short, and Usagi bumps into her from behind. In the hall, a girl is staring into the mirror of her compact. Usagi goes up to her and talks cheerfully at her, but the girl doesn't respond. Finally, Usagi takes the compact and looks at it, perhaps trying to see what's so fascinating about it.

As Usagi looks into the mirror, a cloud of dark energy gathers around it and starts to swirl out towards her. Makoto sees this, and knocks the compact out of Usagi's hand to the floor, where it breaks. The girl who had been staring at it slowly goes to her knees and touched the compact; she seems dazed, and tries to fit one of the broken pieces back into place. Makoto apologizes, and offers her own compact as a replacement, but the girl ignores her.

"Without this compact, how am I supposed to go on living?"

As the girl stares at the broken mirror, her eye flashes gold; Usagi notices this, and suddenly remembers Mamoru's eye flashing. She realizes that Mamoru and this girl have both been acting in the same dazed, zombie-like fashion.

Mamoru is in his apartment; he has evidently been buying mirrors, as there are dozens of them leaning against the walls, many still wrapped. As he is hanging another mirror, the bell rings, and a voice calls out, "Chiba-sempai?" Outside, Mamoru's friend rings the bell several more times, then gives up and walks away. Mamoru had promised to go to an off-line meeting of their PC network members. As he does, Usagi sneaks around the corner and up to Mamoru's door. She holds down the bell for a long time, but there is no answer. Fortunately, Usagi was prepared for this, "I have the symbol of the love between us, the spare key!" She opens the door and calls, but there is no answer.

Inside, Usagi is a little surprised that it is very dark, and also because there are mirrors all over the place. Mamoru is in another room hanging a mirror; Usagi opens the door and sees him standing in front of it. His eye flashes, and the silhouette of Neherenia appears in the mirror. Usagi cries out and rushes forward, but she steps on a mirror lying on the floor and breaks it.

Mamoru says, "Who is it?"
Usagi says, "Mamo-chan.."
Mamoru says, "Don't come into a person's room without permission."
Usagi says, "I'm sorry, I was just worried about you."
Mamoru says, "You don't have to worry about me."

Then Mamoru kneels down and caresses the mirror she broke, but gets a glass splinter in his finger. Usagi tries to kiss it better, but he pulls abruptly away from her.

Mamoru seems to somewhat recover himself, and apologizes to Usagi. Mamoru says that he isn't feeling well, and that he needs rest. Usagi says that she brought some food that her mother made, and put it on the kitchen table.

Usagi says, "Call me when you feel better," and leaves. But as she turns back to peek in the door, she sees Mamoru staring into the mirror again.

[COMMERCIAL]

At Rei's temple, Usagi is talking to the girls and Chibi-Usa about Mamoru; she's worried. Rei remembers the mirror that she anti-evil- scrolled in the last episode, and the fight with the shard-demons. She thinks that the current problems are all related to the mirrors.

Makoto says that it must be what Haruka was talking about, and then the Senshi turn around to see Hotaru and Setsuna standing in the gateway of the temple.

At this point, things get a little funky. We see:

  • Hotaru and Setsuna talking to the Senshi
  • Blowing cherry blossoms
  • Sailor Saturn and Sailor Pluto running
  • Sailor Moon and the other Inner Senshi running, superimposed over city skyline at night, with falling stars in the background
  • Hotaru and Setsuna talking to the Senshi some more
  • Mamoru standing in front of a mirror with the silhouette of Neherenia in it
  • Usagi in her bedroom (the scene from the last episode)
  • Hotaru and Setsuna talking some more

Hotaru and Setsuna explain about the danger that is approaching. They say that Haruka and Michiru were already headed towards Mamoru's place, and they they should go there as soon as they can. Then the girls transform and run to Mamoru's apartment.

Outside the building, Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune are facing several of the shard-demons. They attack using their sword and mirror talismans and the shard-demons are broken but regenerate. Then Sailor Pluto's Dead Scream attack hits the shard-demons, they shatter again, and Pluto, Saturn, and the Inner Senshi run up. The Inner Senshi and Sailor Chibi-Moon run into the building, while the Outer Senshi stay outside.

Inside, the Senshi are waiting for the elevator. The door opens, and their is a Neherenia-silhouette that resolves itself to be one of the shard-demons. It attacks, but Sailor Jupiter blasts it with her Jupiter Oak Evolution. Sailor Venus suggests that they take the stairs instead, and everyone agrees dubiously. Sailor Venus says that her daily exercise (running to school late) really comes in handy at a time like this.

Running up the stairs, Sailor Moon suddenly remembers the silhouette of the shard-demon in the elevator, and the silhouette she saw in Mamoru's mirror. She slows to a stop, stunned by a sudden revelation. The other Senshi ask her what's wrong, and she tells them that the enemy they're facing is Neherenia. After a moment of shock, everyone takes off up the stairs again, Sailor Moon yelling "Mamo-chan!"

In Mamoru's apartment, there are mirrors everywhere, all of them reflecting a dull red glow. The Senshi burst into the apartment, and see Mamoru standing in front of a mirror, caressing it; his eye flashes again. Sailor Moon runs up to him, but Mamoru slaps her brutally away. Chibi-Usa rushes to Sailor Moon, and yells at Mamoru ("Mamo-chan, how could you?")

Neherenia appears in the mirror, openly this time, not as a silhouette. She says, "I'll destroy everything you love, like this!"

She reaches out of the mirror, grabs Mamoru, and pulls him in with her. Sailor Moon rushes to grab him, but she's too late, and just bounces off the mirror. Sailor Mars and Sailor Mercury attack Neherenia with their Flame Sniper and Aqua Rhapsody attacks, but without effect.

Sailor Moon rises to her feet with a determined expression, and says, "Mina, onegai!" Everyone contributes their power to her, and she transforms into Eternal Sailor Moon. Neherenia summons several shard- demons out of the mirrors, but Sailor Moon destroys them with her attack (which still doesn't have a name.)

Sailor Moon demands that Neherenia return Mamoru, but as she does, she suddenly powers down and returns to being Super Sailor Moon. "Why am I returning to normal? Why can't I stay like this?"

Neherenia laughs and turns to leave, holding Mamoru in her arms (still inside the mirror, of course.) She turns to taunt the Senshi one last time, and Mamoru's eye flashes. "At the next dawn, his heart will be mine. Can you come get me by then, Sailor Moon?"

Neherenia laughs evilly, and disappears. Sailor Moon hurls herself at the mirror, screaming "Mamo-chan! Mamo-chan!" in a heartbroken voice.

Episode 170

Flashback to the previous episode, with Neherenia pulling Mamoru into her mirror. She taunts the Senshi, laughs evilly and disappears.

Suddenly, Sailor Chibi-Moon's outfit starts flashing with light. Everyone is shocked at this -- including the Outer Senshi, who have come into the room -- and then Sailor Chibi-Moon transforms back into Chibi- Usa and faints.

[TITLE SCREEN]

At Rei's temple, Chibi-Usa is lying in bed, still unconscious. Ami, Rei, Minako, and Makoto are sitting around a table in the room; the door is open to the outside and Usagi is sitting on the steps, with Haruka, Michiru, Setsuna and Hotaru standing looking on.

Setsuna talks about Small Lady, and says that if Mamoru doesn't come back, Small Lady wouldn't exist any more. Cherry blossoms blow by, and suddenly Usagi starts crying and runs down the path. She stops halfway down the path, and stand there, crying. The others tell Usagi that it's a trap, and say that they would go fight Neherenia. But Usagi says, "I can't. I can't just sit and wait. I have to go help Mamo-chan."

In any case, Usagi's tears fall onto her brooch, which suddenly starts to glow. It turns into the Eternal Sailor Moon transformation brooch, and Usagi transforms into Eternal Sailor Moon (without help from anyone else.) As she does this, Rei realizes what she intends to do, and leaps over the table and runs to catch her. She's too late; Sailor Moon finishes transforming, and flies directly up into the sky and disappears. Rei crashes to the ground where Sailor Moon had been; then is helped to her feet and yells "Usagi no baka!"

Hotaru says, "Let's go after her. We have a duty to protect the princess."

Chibi-Usa comes out of the room, and says something, probably to the effect that they have to go after Sailor Moon. Next we see, everyone has transformed and is standing in a circle, preparing for the Sailor Teleport.

Rei says, "We have to save the prince and princess.." and there is a brief image of Neo-Queen Serenity and King Endymion. Ami says, "To save everyone in the city.." and there are images of people lying dazed in the streets, and the Tokyo skyline at sunset. The Senshi all start to glow, and then the Sailor Teleport activates and they disappear. The cats run up to where the Senshi disappeared from, and wish them luck.

Usagi (not Sailor Moon) is floating unconscious in space; she comes to, wondering where she is. She hears Neherenia's voice, then a mirror appears, with Neherenia inside it.

Neherenia says, "You know this is a trap. You love him that much? I saw you throw yourself to save the one you loved before. But miracles don't happen twice." (There is a flashback to the end of SMSS, with Sailor Chibi-Moon and Sailor Moon falling from the building and being rescued by the Pegasus.)

Neherenia disappears, and Usagi is in a blizzard. She struggles to her feet, and we hear Neherenia's voice saying, "If you don't come to me before dawn, his heart will be mine. Come to me."

We see a long shot of a typical Evil Villain's Castle, then inside; Neherenia is sitting on a throne, surrounded by mirrors and spider webs. Mamoru is sitting against the side of the throne, still looking dazed. Neherenia is drinking something from a goblet, watching Usagi in one of the mirrors. Suddenly, several other mirrors show images of the other Senshi flying through space.

The Senshi, still holding hands in a circle, are flying headlong through space. Sailor Chibi-Moon starts to flicker again, as she starts disappearing again; but she remembers several happy times with her mother and father, and is determined not to fail them. Sailor Saturn, holding her hand, tells her she'll be all right.

Neherenia is much put out to see the Senshi approaching; she hurls her goblet through on of the mirrors, which shatters, but instantly repairs itself. The shards appear in front of the flying Senshi; they yell at each other to hold on tight, but to no avail. When the shards hit, the Senshi are separated, and spin off into the void. We see Sailor Chibi- Moon, Sailor Saturn, and Sailor Pluto in one group; Sailor Mars and Sailor Neptune in another; Sailor Mercury and Sailor Uranus in yet another; and finally Sailor Venus and Sailor Jupiter (remember these groupings.)

We see a place with lots of ruins, broken columns, and so on -- not unlike the ruins of the Silver Millenium. Sailor Uranus falls to the ground. She gets to her feet and looks around, when she hears a noise. She gets ready to fight, but it turns out to be Sailor Mercury.

[CM Break]

Sailor Uranus and Sailor Mercury are in the ruin-place, calling for Sailor Moon and Mamoru-san. Mercury pulls out her computer and starts typing on it.
Sailor Uranus says, "Can you find anything?"
Sailor Mercury says, "No, no trace of them."

Then Uranus takes off running. She's very fast, and Mercury is impressed, and does her best to keep up.

Flashback - Ami remembers being a little girl (very cute) in school. A basketball rolls to her feet, and she picks it up. Two other girls come up, and talk to her (inviting her to play). Then a third girl comes up (says that Ami has to go to cram school), and the three other girls go off to play, leaving Ami all alone.

In the present, Sailor Mercury is trying to keep up with Sailor Uranus. Uranus remembers running with Sailor Neptune, thinking that Michiru was the one matching her running pace.

They come to a small cliff, and look over. To their surprise, the land here is repeating itself (this is hard to describe verbally; there are repeated "strips" of the same terrain, separated by narrow bands of nothingness. Think of a wallpaper bitmap tiling on your desktop.) Sailor Mercury pulls out her computer again; Uranus starts to walk away, but Mercury asks her to wait while she analyzes it.
Mercury says, "The more we move, the more we get taken by Neherenia's trap."

Suddenly, Neherenia appears in front of them. Sailor Uranus does a flying kick, but Neherenia simply floats up into the air and Uranus lands on her butt. Sailor Mercury does her Aqua Rhapsody attack, but Neherenia just bounces it back at her, and Mercury is knocked off her feet. Uranus goes to help her, then pulls her out of the path of the black lightning that Neherenia blasts them with.

Sailor Uranus starts to do her World Shaking attack. Mercury yells for her to wait, but Uranus throws the attack anyway. Neherenia reflects this one as well, and Uranus is blasted by her own attack. We see a shot of an eclipsed sun in the sky, then pan down to Neherenia laughing evilly.

Flashback - little Ami is in her room, reading books about basketball. Later, she's at school, diagraming a play for the girls we saw earlier.

In the present, Sailor Mercury gets to her feet and her visor appears. Mercury thinks to herself, "Yes, I have my way of doing things." She starts typing rapidly on her computer. Neherenia is unimpressed; she blasts Mercury with her black lightning, but Mercury just stands and takes it, still typing. Sailor Uranus wonders what Mercury is doing.

Uranus thinks, "Why isn't she fighting?" Then she yells out, "Fight, Sailor Mercury! Are you still a senshi?"

Flashback - a basketball game. The girls are running Ami's play, and score a basket, winning the game. Later, all the girls are surrounding Ami, congratulating her.

Mercury thinks to herself, "This is my way of fighting."

The present - Sailor Mercury falls to her knees under the barrage of black lightning, but continues typing furiously. Suddenly, the lightning stops; she looks up, to see that Sailor Uranus is standing in front of her, taking the attack in her place. Uranus tells her, "Hurry up. I can't keep this up much longer."

Suddenly, Mercury's computer screen shows a pair of crosshairs, which move from Neherenia to the eclipsed sun in the sky. Mercury yells at Uranus to attack the eclipse, and Uranus throws a World Shaking at it. There is a shattering effect, and "Neherenia" is revealed to be merely one of the mirror paredory. Uranus attacks it with her talisman sword, and it shatters.

Uranus asks, "Why did you know?"
Mercury says, "Neherenia's hair was blowing in the wind. It took some time to find her."

Mercury and Uranus are floating in space. Then mirrors appear behind each of them, and Neherenia's arms come out of the mirrors and drag them in. The last we see of them, they are floating, unconscious, inside the mirrors.

The blizzard -- Usagi is still struggling on, barefoot now for some reason. As she staggers forward, she calls out, "Mamo-chan! Mamo-chan!"

A forest -- Sailor Neptune and Sailor Mars are standing back to back. Sailor Mars throws an anti-evil scroll into the trees, where it vanishes into the distance. Both of them point confidently in opposite directions; but Sailor Neptune starts out the way she chose, saying, "What will you do?"
Mars says, "I'll go with you." Then Mars says very softly, "If it was Usagi, she would follow me.."
Neptune says, "You're good friends, just like Uranus and me."
Mars says, "Don't make us out to be the same as you."

Sailor Neptune starts to run, and Sailor Mars runs with her (keeping up without apparent difficulty.)

Suddenly, a flock of birds flies up out of the bushes, and Neherenia appears in front of them. Neherenia says, "I'll show you my evil power."

Sailor Neptune and Sailor Mars are surrounded by a ring of fire. Neherenia laughs evilly.

Episode 171

Recap of the end of last episode -- Sailor Mars and Sailor Neptune are running through a dark forest. Suddenly, Neptune stops, and throws out an arm to stop Mars. A flock of birds flies up into the sky, and Neherenia appears from behind a tree. Suddenly, a ring of fire surrounds the Sailor Senshi...

[TITLE SCREEN]

The fire burns higher and comes closer to the Senshi; the bottom of Sailor Mars' skirt begins to catch on fire. As she tries to put it out, Neptune throws a Deep Submerge, and the ring of fire vanishes. Neptune says, "That kind of illusion isn't going to trick us." Mars was thinking that she wasn't up to the level of Neptune.

Suddenly, a web shoots out from behind Neherenia, expands... and they are floating in emptiness. Neherenia laughs and vanishes; but as the Senshi are looking around, tendrils of hair crawl up behind Sailor Neptune and grab her ankles. She cries out and falls as the hair pulls her back towards Neherenia. Mars begins a Flame Sniper, but Neherenia pulls Neptune up and uses her as a shield. Mars pauses, holding the Flame Sniper attack and Neherenia hurls her dark lightning. Mars dodges the first one, but is knocked off her feet by the second; and the Flame Sniper arrow vanishes.

Neptune yells at her; "Fire! Have you forgotten our duty? We promised to protect the Princess." Mars has a vision of Usagi walking in the blizzard. As Mars hesitates, Neherenia's hair begins to strangle Neptune. Mars is torn, seeing Usagi wandering in the blizzard, and Neptune being strangled in front of her; finally, she climbs to her feet, and begins a Flame Sniper. Neherenia taunts her, but Mars throws the attack anyway. Neptune jerks herself out of the way, and the Sniper hits Neherenia, who shatters, being only a mirror paredory after all.

The forest reappears around them. Neptune staggers towards Mars, before collapsing into the puddle left from her Deep Submerge. Mars goes to help her, but also collapses. As they lie face-down in the water, mirrors appears, and they are drawn within.

The real Neherenia is watching in a mirror from her throne room; the view in the mirror changes, to show Usagi staggering through the snow. She trips and falls face first into the snow; then climbs slowly to her feet, with a determined, "Mamo-chan..."

In Neherenia's throne room, Mamoru is leaning against her throne, completely mindless. Neherenia says, "Your princess is coming.." His eye shines with a golden light.

Usagi struggles on, then looks down at her feet aghast; a path of flowers has appeared on the ground. As she gazes in disbelief, the snow vanishes, and she is in a sunny field, surrounded by flowers.

In a place full of ruins, Sailor Venus and Sailor Pluto are running from a pack of mirror paredory. Suddenly, they see another group in front of them, and skid to a stop; Venus' feet fly out from under her, and she lands on her butt. As she climbs to her feet, a rope-and-plank bridge appears behind them, crossing a deep chasm.

The mirror paredory draw closer, and Pluto yells at Venus. "I'll hold them off. You go. When you get to the other side, cut the bridge. You're the only one who can become the leader. If we both die, who's going to save the princess. Hurry up!"

The mirror paredory attack, and Pluto fights back, smashing several of them with her staff. Venus begins to cross the bridge carefully, while it creaks and groans under her feet.

In the field, Usagi hears a voice; she looks around, and finally looks down; a dandelion is speaking to her. "Are you looking for someone?" She talks to it, and several other flowers join in the conversation. At the mention of "Neherenia's curse" the flowers shiver and appear frightened. Usagi stands up, and then suddenly appears confused; there are several shots with really peculiar camera angles here. The flowers begin to giggle in a rather familiar way, and Usagi's eyes gradually become vacant and pupilless.

The flowers say, "Who? Where are you going? You can stay here. Just forget everything bad."

[CM Break]

Sailor Venus is slowly crossing the bridge; a plank breaks under her feet, and she almost falls through. As she climbs back onto the bridge, Pluto hurls a Dead Scream at the mirror paredory; they shatter, but regenerate instantly. The mirror paredory attack Sailor Pluto, hitting her several times; Venus sees this, and charges headlong back across the bridge. She launches her Love and Beauty Shock at the mirror paredory, which shatter. Before they can reform, she grabs Pluto and they start running across the bridge, pursued by the pack of mirror paredory.

Half-way across, the bridge breaks. The mirror paredory fall into the chasm; as the Senshi fall, Venus throws her Love-Me Chain up to the top of the chasm. It catches, and she grabs Pluto's hand; the two of them dangle over the bottomless depths.

"Why did you do that?"
"How can I leave my teammate? As a leader, I order you to fight with me to protect the princess."

Their conversation is interrupted by the voice of Neherenia; they look up in horror to see Neherenia standing at the lip of the chasm, holding the end of the chain. She lets it go, and Venus and Pluto fall; as they do, mirrors appear around them. Neherenia laughs, and turns back into a mirror paredory.

The real Neherenia is in the field of flowers, gloating over the mindless Usagi. She pulls back her hand, about to strike Usagi; but suddenly, she is stopped by Sailor Jupiter. Jupiter throws Neherenia into the air, but since Neherenia can levitate, she isn't hurt. Jupiter tries to snap Usagi out of her trance, but Neherenia taunts her.

Neherenia says, "Have you ever seen a nightmare? If it's a dream that one wants to wake up from, one will. But she's chosen to stay in her dream. She won't come out of it."
Jupiter says, "That's a lie. You're trapping Usagi in a nightmare."

Jupiter charges headlong at Neherenia, misses, and falls [there's a nice up-the-skirt shot here, for the Mako-chan fans]. Jupiter gets up and throws an Oak Evolution, but the leaves fade and turn autumn colors before they hit Neherenia. Neherenia laughs evilly, and we briefly see the mirrors that have trapped the other Senshi.

Neherenia attacks with her dark lightning, knocking Jupiter down and driving a furrow in the ground. Jupiter ends up almost in Usagi's lap; Usagi is still oblivious. Neherenia attacks Usagi with her lightning, but Jupiter leaps up and takes the attack again. They yell at each other.

Jupiter says, "She's the kind of person who will sacrifice herself for others. We all love Usagi. Did you have any friends like that?"
Neherenia says, "Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!"
Neherenia continued, "A friend? Don't make me laugh. I don't need one of those. I'll trap you like the others."

Neherenia screams and attacks furiously, blasting Jupiter again and again as Jupiter shields Usagi. Finally, Jupiter collapses; as she does, one of her rose earrings falls off and rolls in front of Usagi. A mirror appears around Jupiter, and she is trapped.

Usagi stares mesmerized at the rose earring; she remembers roses, roses being thrown, and a mysterious stranger in a black cloak... her pupils reappear, and she stands up, saying, "Mamo-chan!" The field of flowers disappears; Usagi is standing on a cliff, at the foot of a long, long, flight of stairs leading to Neherenia's palace in the background. Usagi starts for the stairs, but as she does so, thorn bushes appear, until the entire stairway is covered. Usagi begins to force her way through the thorns, telling Mamoru to wait for her ("Matte, Mamo-chan...").

In her throne room, Neherenia is watching this in her mirror when she hears voices behind her. She turns around in shock to see Sailor Chibi- Moon and Sailor Saturn. Sailor Saturn whirls her glaive, and then holds the point a mere inch from Neherenia's throat.

Episode 172

Sailor Chibi-Moon is holding Mamoru while Sailor Saturn is holding Neherenia at glaive-point. Neherenia laughs evilly, saying Mamoru can never wake up, and Chibi-Moon begins to fade in and out, becoming transparent.

Neherenia says, "Do you think you made it here by yourself? You're the final pieces for me to torture the princess of the white moon."

Suddenly, Neherenia vanishes, and a blast of energy knocks Saturn across the room. Chibi-Moon continues to hold Mamoru, crying, "Mamo-chan, wake up.." as she fades.

Elsewhere, Luna and Diana are on a sidewalk when Artemis runs up. He gasps out something, and we see scenes from all over the city, of people trapped in mirrors, mirror shade lenses, anything reflective. Luna looks at the sky worriedly, and says, "Usagi-chan..."

Usagi is struggling up the stairs, forcing her way through the thorns.

Chibi-Moon is still holding Mamoru. "If you don't wake up, I'll disappear!" Neherenia appears in a mirror overhead, and a torrent of black lightning hits Mamoru in his eye. Saturn leaps in and blocks the energy with her glaive. Neherenia appears across the room -- not in a mirror this time -- and gloats. Chibi-Moon fades some more.

Saturn says, "Then I'll have to release my power of destruction to end everything."
Neherenia says, "If you use that power, you will be destroyed too. Do it if you can."
Saturn says, "That is my destiny."
Neherenia says, "What good is that."
Saturn says, "I believe in the princess."

Saturn lifts her glaive up high, and Neherenia gives a you-wouldn't-dare sort of laugh Saturn holds firm, and Neherenia attacks. Saturn resists the attack, then her glaive begins to glow. Saturn lifts it high, then brings it down on the floor. There is a HUGE explosion, knocking down Usagi on the stairs outside and destroying most of the palace.

Neherenia gets up; there is a sizable hole in the floor where Saturns glaive hit, and Chibi-Moon is holding onto Saturn and she says that it's all right, and then falls to the floor, fading in and out. As Saturn is distracted by this, Neherenia attacks, knocking Saturn's glaive out of her hand. Neherenia strikes again, and Saturn is trapped in a mirror. The mirrors containing the other Senshi appear, suspended in midair.

A voice says, "Neherenia..." and Usagi staggers into the room.

Neherenia says, "Welcome princess of the white moon. But you were too late. If will be dawn soon. They will never awaken."

Neherenia laughs disdainfully, and sits in her throne, caressing Mamoru. Usagi sees Chibi-Moon lying on the floor, and rushes to her. As she holds Chibi-Moon in her arms, Chibi-Moon fades even more. Chibi-Moon says, "Usagi, I couldn't save Mamo-chan. But I believe in you." Finally, Chibi-Moon vanishes entirely in a shower of lights, and Usagi collapses in tears.

[CM Break]

Usagi is kneeling on the floor of the throne room, crying; and Neherenia is triumphant. Usagi turns around and, for the first time, sees the mirrors containing her friends.

Usagi asks, "Why?"
Neherenia says, "To get revenge on you. So you feel the loneliness that I felt."

Neherenia begins to speak; as she does, we see a dark mirror. In the mirror appears... Chibi-Neherenia! In the background, there is a chorus of voices, chanting, "Our beautiful princess Neherenia-sama."

Chibi-Neherenia reaches out to a mirror somewhere, and her eyes turn golden. We see a ballroom, and then a still of a teenage Neherenia, then the empty mirror again, and then the eclipsed moon.

Neherenia screams and blasts Usagi, over and over again. Usagi is hurled across the room by the attacks, finally being slammed into a wall. Neherenia picks Usagi up by the throat and begins to strangle here, when she is shocked to see tears in Usagi's eyes.

Neherenia says, "Stop it! Don't look at me with those eyes." and strangles Usagi harder, but Usagi continues to cry. Finally, Neherenia hurls Usagi across the room and collapses.

Usagi kneels where she landed, tears dripping unheeded from her eyes.

Neherenia says, "You should be mad at me. Hate me!"
Usagi says, "If it was me, I couldn't live alone. I can't stand being alone like you."
Neherenia says, "How can you feel what I felt."
Usagi says, "If you want revenge, you should take it out on me. Return everyone else. It's all right, everyone will understand your situation. They'll become your friends. Take your revenge on me."

Usagi gets up, and Mamoru's eye glows brighter than ever, and the shard comes out and shatters. As it does, the mirrors imprisoning the other Senshi also shatter, and the Senshi appear as Mamoru stands up. A shower of lights appears next to Mamoru, and Chibi-Moon re-materializes, and takes Mamoru's hand.

Usagi whispers, "Chibi-Usa... Mamo-chan... minna [everyone]..."

Neherenia looks up at the eclipsed moon, then shrieks and attacks wildly, blasting all the Senshi one after another. When she attacks Chibi-Moon, Mamoru shield her with his body, and turns into Prince Endymion. The Senshi seem unhurt by the attacks, and Neherenia is stunned.

The Senshi begin to glow with energy, and they tell Neherenia to believe in Usagi. Usagi transforms into Eternal Sailor Moon. Her moon rod grows into a tall staff, and a beam of energy shoots from it up to the eclipsed moon.

Usagi says, "Remember your real dream."
Neherenia says, "I wanted a friend, that I can talk to. Can I really start over?"

Neherenia simply watches, not knowing what to do. The moon slowly uneclipses. Neherenia begins to cry, and then THE mirror breaks... Neherenia disappears into a brilliant wash of white light. Chibi-Neherenia wakes up from a bad dream in her throne room.

Chibi-Neherenia has to go off to sleep, but she stops and asks someone to sing her a lullaby. One of the people says that she will, and Chibi-Neherenia becomes happy.

The Senshi are standing in what remains of the evil Neherenia's palace, looking up at the sky. Sailor Moon holds out her hand to Sailor Jupiter, and opens it to reveal Jupiter's rose earring. "Arigatou..." she says, quietly; and everyone smiles.

Somewhere in space, there is evil laughter...
