Blink 182 Biography
Tom DeLonge lived just outside of San Diego California. Mark Hoppus had just moved to San Diego in the late '80's, but they had never met until one fateful day in the fall of 1991. Mark's sister was going out with one of Tom's best friends. One day, Mark's sister introduced him to Tom and I guess it just clicked. That was just after Mark had dropped out of college. Eventually, they joined up with Scott Raynor and started to play at local clubs. Hoppus and DeLonge met a rock band called "The Vandals" who had a small record label, and they released a cassette-only version of "Buddha". One year later, Cargo Records signed Blink to a one-record deal. In 1995, they released "Cheshire Cat". After almost being sued by an Irish band named "Blink", they changed their name to Blink 182, which they said was a random number that they just chose. In 1996, they released "Dude Ranch" which reached gold status in both the United States and Canada. In January of 1999, Blink 182 traveled back to their hometown of San Diego and started work on their new CD after the loss of their former drummer, Scott Raynor, who left the band because he wanted to go back to school. They added in Travis Barker, a very accomplished drummer from the Aquabats. They released the album "Enema of the State" in July 1999 and it is doing great!
