Chapter One
"Catriona!" Kagome shouted over the noise of the airport, successfully getting the attention of her friend who had come overseas from America to spend five months with her to see what life was where she lived. The girl with burnt red hair & brown eyes ran to Kagome, both girls hugging tightly.
"Ah, Kagome!" Catriona Delaney squealed, letting go of Kagome. "It's great to see you again!" she giggled. The girls had met a year ago when Kagome was in America as part of a foreign exchange program that was only for three months but since they hit it off, they kept in touch & now it was Catriona's turn to live in Kagome's hometown, er, country.
"It's good to see you too! Wanna go get your bags so we can get out of this crazy place?" Kagome asked as they started to the baggage claim. On the way there, the girls caught a few stares as they talked English even though Catriona knew Japanese perfectly since she took it in school then had a tutor for two years. Kagome had arrived during her last year of studying the language.
At Kagome's house, both girls agreed that in the house they would use Japanese, but outside to themselves, they'd use English. Kagome sent Catriona up to her room when her mother called her to the living room. A few seconds into the conversation, a loud tumbling sound was heard in Kagome's room followed by a very short scream that sounded almost like a yelp. Everyone got up & ran up to Kagome's room to see Catriona pinned underneath a very angry Inu Yasha who had a bump forming on his head.
"Inu Yasha, get off of her!" Kagome yelled, grabbing him by his ear to pull him up, which worked fine. "Why were you attacking her?!"
"She attacked me!" he shot back, rubbing his ear that had been let go.
Kagome looked at Catriona. "I saw him climbing through your window, I didn't know you knew him so I hit him with a book!"
Kagome giggled & looked at Inu yasha. "Serves you right, climbing through my window when I told you I wouldn't be back for a while," Kagome huffed as she helped Catriona off of the floor. "Are you okay Cat?"
"What kinda name is-ARGH!" Inu Yasha found himself crashing to the floor when Kagome yelled "Sit!". "Dammit..." he grumbled, peeling his face from the floor. "What was that for?!"
"You were going to make a crack on her name, weren't you?"
"I..."
"I thought so... Are you okay?" she asked again, looking at her friend who nodded, glaring at the hanyou who was finally standing, brushing himself off. "I'm so sorry about Inu Yasha."
"It's okay," she replied, fixing her ponytail, which had been messed up when Inu Yasha tackled her to the floor. "How did you get him to fall like that?"
"The necklace around his neck has a spell on it so that whenever I say, 'Sit!'," she paused to look at Inu Yasha, who was one more sprawled on the floor. "Heh, that happens."
"Very useful... Seems to me like all guys need those, huh?"
Both girls giggled as Inu Yasha peeled himself from the floor again & by now Kagome's mother was standing behind the two in the doorway. "Really Inu Yasha," she spoke up, making her presence known, "you could at least use the door."
"Why bother? I use this way all the time," Inu Yasha replied.
"Oh really?" Kagome's mother looked at her daughter, folding her arms over he chest. "Kagome...?"
"Inu Yasha!" Kagome whimpered, looking at her mom. "I've told him to use the door, but do you think that ignorant guy listens to me?"
"We'll have a talk about this later Inu Yasha," the woman warned, looking at Catriona. "I'm sorry if he gave you a scare dear."
"It's not your fault he's a rude idiot," Catriona smiled.
"I'll leave you three to yourselves," the woman said before leaving.
"So, what's your real name anyway? I know it can't be 'Cat'." Inu Yasha asked as he got closer to her, sniffing her from a few feet away so it wouldn't be noticed, but she saw his nose twitching up & down slightly as he sniffed the air.
"You're right, it's not 'Cat'. But I have Kagome call me 'Cat', because my-why are you sniffing the air like a dog?!" She demanded, moving closer to him. "It's getting annoying seeing your nose do that twitchy thing."
Kagome looked at Catriona. "He's a um, demon.. Half demon actually."
"Huh?"
"He's a hanyou... I know they don't exist in today's times, but they do in his time. He's a dog hanyou, but his brother, Sesshomaru, is a youkai, a full demon."
"How the hell is he a hanyou but his bro is a youkai?"
"Different moms... Sesshomaru's mom was a youkai & Inu Yasha's mom was a human. Get it now?"
"Yea... But anyway, why is he sniffing the air?"
"I'm trying to figure out why you have a guy smell if you're a girl," Inu Yasha answered for himself, glaring at Kagome for telling her everything."
"It's because I wear cologne & not perfume."
"Eh?"
"Kagome...A little help here?"
"I'll explain later..."
"One thing though." Inu Yasha grabbed Kagome by her arm & dragged her across the room, away from Catriona. "What is her real name & why is she here? She doesn't look like she belongs here."
"She's a friend of mine visiting from America. More correctly across the ocean in New Jersey."
"Clueless.."
"Ugh.. I'll show you before you leave. And her first name is Catriona, but she goes by Cat so no one says her name wrong. And could you be a little nicer Inu Yasha? I swear you're being as rude as your brother. And don't even try dragging me away from my home for the next five months, we're going nowhere near that well."
"But the jewel!" he growled. "I got some tips on where we could find some shards."
"Then go fetch them."
"Kagome!"

"I'm sorry about him Catriona," Kagome apologized as she glared at Inu Yasha. He'd dragged them out of her room & through the well with Kagome's bag & one of Catriona's bags of clothes. "He's a bit self-centered."
"Gee, I couldn't tell," she growled, mirroring Kagome's glare at Inu Yasha.
