Chapter One
"Sis, help!" Joshua Alan screamed from the office room in the three story house they shared. "He's at it again!" he screamed.
After three years, Catriona was still in America & turns out their dad had a lot more money than he'd keyed them in on. About four million three hundred thousand sixty-seven, four hundred eighty-nine dollars [$4,367,489] to be exact. And it had all been left to Catriona & her brother, Joshua Alan. Their mother had left them sixty-nine hundred thousand, three hundred fifty-six dollars & sixty-four cents [$690,356.64], giving them the grand total of five million fifty-seven thousand eight hundred forty-five dollars & sixty-four cents [$5,057,845.64] . This was more than enough money for her to go back to Tokyo & visit Kagome & the others, but she had to stay here because of a souvenir she didn't know she had until a while after she got home.
Catriona raced up the stairs from the second story & into the office room, yanking her son, Isamu, who had green nails aiming at her brother's neck, off of her brother who was sprawled on the floor with the chair under him. "Isamu, what have I told you about attacking your uncle Joshua?" she asked, using a demanding tone to her voice even though it wasn't loud.
"Not to?" he asked innocently, smiling with mischief.
"Something tells me I should have named you Loki," she grinned & ruffled the top of his hair, which went down below his shoulders so far.
"You're not going to yell & scream at him?" Josh said as he scrambled to his feet & began brushing his back & butt off, then the front of his pants though nothing was there. "I could've been badly hurt by that brat-" Joshua shut his mouth quickly when he saw the deathly glare that Catriona sent his way. "I could've been hurt by him knocking me onto the floor with that whip of his. Can't you get him to control it?"
Catriona looked at Isamu who smiled at her with innocence that made her grin & pick him up. "We need to have a talk young man," she giggled, looking at her brother who was rubbing his butt. She carried him out of the room & down the stairs to the first floor of the house. She set him down & took his hand as they walked into a room that had been made to be like the garden she remembered seeing behind Sesshomaru's castle. "Isamu," she sat as they sat on a sitting rock she had brought in when they were doing the garden, "you can't use your uncle as your training dummy."
He sat next to her & looked up at her. "But he's fun to torture like that. I don't actually hurt him badly..."
"I know you don't hon, but he gets annoyed with it happening so often. Do you think you could be a little easier on him & not do it as often as you do? Can you do that for mommy?" When Isamu nodded & hopped off the rock to walk through the garden, she watched after him, thinking of how much he looked like his father. He had light markings similar to his father's so he had to wear a cover-up when he went out so no one would get suspicious.
"Hey mom? How come we don't go see dad & Aunt Kagome?" he asked, not looking at her while he looked at a mini tree that they had growing.
Catriona had explained to him a long time ago who is dad was & how they met when he asked, claiming he was ready to know & he had been good about understanding it all. He's too much like he father, she thought to herself with a giggle. "Well, mommy has to keep your grandpa's business going or our funds, even though we don't need them, could be cut short. Say we need them in the future, what do we do then?" she asked in return, getting him to look at her with a mischievous grin. "What's that look for young man?"
"Uncle Joshua can run the business while we're gone!" he smiled as he went to his mom. "He ran it before when you had to leave that time for a month & it did just fine, didn't it?"
"Yes, I guess it did," Catriona sighed quietly as she stared at the little boy who never ceased to amaze her with his intelligence. But then again, think about who is father he... He's a hanyou & he's supposed to grow fast & learn even faster, she thought to herself. "Alright, I'll go call Kagome & see if the well is still working & see if maybe we can't go there for a while to visit. It would do both of us good to get out of here for a while."
"Yes!" he hollered, jumping up & down, making her giggle while he laughed. "I'm gonna go tell Uncle Josh & you go call, okay mommy?!" he said as he ran out of the room & out of her sight.
She shook her head & left the garden room, walking into the kitchen to grab the cordless & clipped it onto the belt loop of the jeans she wore & connected the headset, putting it on as she walked outside, while pressing the speed dial button that was used for Kagome's number. She listened a few times until the phone stopped ringing through & was finally picked up.
"Sunset Shrine," a boy's voice said on the other line in Japanese. "Higurashi Sota speaking."
"Hey Sota, it's Catriona, how are you hon?" she smiled, hearing the excited smile in the boy's voice as he spoke.
"I'm doing good! How are you?"
"I'm good. Hey, Kagome wouldn't happen to be around, would she?"
"She's out in the shrine dusting the shelves with Inu Yasha, want me to go get her?"
"Can you please Sota?"
"Anything for you Cat!"
Catriona smiled while she waited for Sota to get the phone to Kagome. Well either the jewel is completed & Inu Yasha's staying there now or the well is still working, she thought to herself.
"Catriona, is it really you?!" a girl's voice giggled onto the phone, excitement loud & clear.
"Yep it's me Kagome. Hey listen, you remember how I've been away for like three years now?"
"How could I not? I've been living them with an annoyed Miroku whenever go back through the well to see everyone," Kagome replied. "So, what's bringing you to call me?"
"I wanted to come for a visit, as long as I can stay for. My brother's going to take care of the business for me while I'm there," Catriona answered, being sure not to mentioned Isamu, like she'd done in the past, not wanting Kagome to know just yet. "Do you think I could come for a long visit?"
"Well how long are you looking at?"
"I don't know. How long would I be welcome?"
"Well since we had a room added onto the house incase Inu Yasha ever decided to come through & spend the night since grandpa doesn't like the idea of him sleeping in my room with me, I guess you could stay there. Why don't you come & we can work out how long you can stay."
"Alright... Can you be sure to be at the shrine in about a week so I can get everything set?"
"Sure thing. I can't wait to see you again Catriona! Oh hold on, Inu Yasha wants to say hi," Kagome giggled as the phone was handed over to Inu Yasha.
"Hey Catriona, what's Kagome smiling so much about?"
"I'm coming for a visit & I should be there within a week... Are you gonna be there to greet me too ya big puppy?" She giggled when she heard him growl.
"Yes I'll be here & don't call me a puppy!"
"Okay okay," she giggled when the phone was handed back to Kagome. "Well I guess I'll see you in a week okay?"
"Okay Catriona, bye!"
Catriona hung up the phone & took off the headset, setting it on the table. Her head snapped up & she looked at the third story window when she heard a scream come from Josh. She picked up the headset & ran inside, setting the phone & headset on the counter before she ran up the stairs & into the office, but that wasn't where they were. "JOSH?!" she screamed.
"BATHROOM!" he screamed in response.
She ran to the bathroom to find Isamu standing outside with his ears pushed back against his head, a low growl rumbling in his throat. His normally burnt red hair that he inherited from his mother had white streaks standing out; something that happened when he got a little too angry or he smelled blood & his youkai would try to come out. "Isamu!" she yelled, making him tense & turn around to look at her. "Isamu, come here, right now."
He looked at the bathroom door & growled again before he walked to her & stood before her, looking up at her with slightly tinted red eyes. "Yes mommy?"
"What's wrong? Why do you have your Uncle Josh screaming so loud I can hear him outside?" she asked, kneeling down & putting her hand on his shoulder; something that seemed to calm him down at these points, which it did & his eyes went back to being white with amber.
I went to tell him about our plans & ask him if he could do the business & he was bleeding from his arm. I...I'm sorry mommy but I couldn't control myself after that," he whimpered, lowering his head. "Please don't hate me?"
"Oh Isamu," she said softly as she lowered her bent up leg so she was on both knees now & brought him to her, rubbing his back softly. "It's okay honey, I don't hate you, I could never hate you," she said as she looked up to see Josh coming out of the bathroom with a towel on his arm to stop the bleeding on what seemed to be a bad cut. "What happened Josh?"
"I stood up & my arm nicked the edge of the desk hard enough to break the skin & before I knew what was going on, he latched on & wouldn't let go. That's when I screamed & I hated to do it, but I had to hit him to get him to let go," he replied, peeking under the towel, grimacing at the torn flesh underneath.
She felt Isamu shake in her arms & heard him whimper, then felt the wetness that was lingering on her shirt that she'd just now noticed. Oh my poor baby, she thought to herself as she stood, picking him up. "Come on hon, let's go set you in your room," she said then looked at Josh. "Wash it then I'll be in there to stitch you up." She heard a silent "okay" as she turned & walked down the second floor to Isamu's room where she set him on his bed. "Isamu, look at mommy," she said softly as he slowly lifted his head. "Isamu, I'm not mad at you... I know you can't control yourself yet, so don't be upset okay?" she said as she wiped away his tears.
He nodded & rubbed his cheek where a red mark was starting to show. He sniffled & looked at her. "You're such a nice mommy... You deserve a better son than me," he sniffled. "I'm just a stupid, no good hanyou mutt."
"Isamu, who told you this?"
"No one, I just know it," he replied, looking away from her.
"Isamu that's not true... Now listen, your Aunt kagome doesn't know you exist yet, okay? But you're coming with me when it's time to go see her," she smiled, bringing a smile from him.
"We're going?!" he smiled.
Catriona nodded & kissed his forehead. "That's right baby. We're going to Tokyo to see your Aunt Kagome & hopefully your daddy too."
"You mean... I might get to meet the great youkai Lord Sesshomaru?" he smiled wide, his eyes growing wide with excitement.
"That's right baby. So, we gotta get everything ready & start shopping for clothes to bring with us, okay? I'm gonna go take care of your Uncle Josh & call the airport to reserve some flight tickets. You go ahead & get changed so we can start our shopping so we can be ready, okay?"
"Yes mommy!" he smiled as he jumped up from his bed, hugging her legs tightly. "You're the best mommy in the whole wide universe!" he giggled before he let go of her legs, allowing her to leave the room & go to the bathroom to help stitch Joshua up.
