Chapter One
Cold eyes met with frightened eyes as Sesshomaru stared down at the girl he had found. He'd followed her cries of terror after being led to her burning village. It was the scent of smoke that hung heavy in the air & the red the blended with the black of the night sky far off that led him there & now he stood above the girl with black hair that stopped at her shoulders & brown eyes that shone with her tears of fright.
Thinking back to why he had come here, to see what was happening, he thought about how long he'd been in the burning mess & realized that Rin & Jaken must be worried about him. Inwardly he scoffed, considering his last thought. Jaken only worries for his life, never for me, he thought to himself.
He looked down at the girl, "Come with me or stay & die." That was all he said before he turned & left. The girl quickly got up & followed him away from the village. He made his way back to where he left Jaken & Rin, making sure the girl he'd found was following him. He was thankful for her silence, but he was curious as to what happened with this strange girl & the village.
While he was curious about her, she was just as curious about him & where he could be taking her. But not curious enough to go back. She'd rather die at his hands then by smoking inhalation & burning alive.
Sesshomaru took notice of the girl?s hung head as they walked side-by-side. "So silent..." he spoke, breaking the heavy silence between them. "Why do you not speak?"
"What reason for speaking do I have?" she spat, keeping her head hung down.
A smirk crossed Sesshomaru?s lips before he spoke. "Such a sharp tongue for a human who's live has been spared... Do you know how easily I could kill you?" His face fell emotionless as he looked to his side at her. "Tell me your name."
"Why should I? You can't force me to."
"Quite a fire you have inside wench, but for that fire, I think I'll go along with my original plan to keep you as a pet. I detest humans, but I've recently taken in a young child & I feel she'll need a companion of her kind."
At his words, the girl stopped in her tracks, causing him to look at her as he stopped walking himself. "You can't make me stay with you," she growled at him.
He raised an amused brow, but no smile crossed his lips. "Is that what you think? That you can leave anytime you wish?" When he got no response, he continued. "If indeed that's what you think, you're wrong. Should you take one step to run away, you'll find yourself on the ground, dying as slow of a death as I can bring to you. Understand?" When she nodded, he spoke once more. "Good... Now, follow me & only talk when told to by me & only me unless told otherwise."
The two continued walking until they finally came upon Jaken & Rin. Jaken merely stared at them while Rin quickly went to Sesshomaru & hugged his leg, having missed him & been worried about him after he told them if he didn?t come back soon, to leave. Jaken had tried to leave multiple times, but when Rin started to cry over the thought of being alone again, Jaken returned to her side, mumbling a few rude words. Sesshomaru & the young women stopped walking & Sesshomaru picked Rin up & held her. "Why are you two still here? I took long enough for you to leave," he questioned, looking from Jaken to Rin.
"Lord Sesshomaru, I stayed because I knew you would return. I have faith in you," Rin answered, looking into Sesshomaru's eyes, smiling. "Jaken doesn't have as much faith in you though. He tried to leave me alone this many times." Rin held up both hands, holding up seven fingers all together.
"Is this so?" Sesshomaru looked at Jaken, who was staring still at the girl Sesshomaru had with him. He was oblivious to the fact that he was about to be hit until he found himself eating the grass where he had once been standing. He scrambled to his feet & brushed himself off.
"What was that for m'lord?" the confused toad demon questioned, rubbing his head. He looked up to see the anger & red in Sesshomaru's eyes. "M-M-M?!-lord?" Sesshomaru's eyes slowly turned a darker red & his pupils turned blue. "Lord Sesshomaru, why are you mad at me?!"
Sesshomaru set the young girl down & picked Jaken up by his throat, squeezing tightly. "How dare you try to abandon this child? A demon could have come along & had her-" Sesshomaru stopped talking, realizing that he was going soft over this child. He was turning into his brother. He let go of Jaken, letting the toad demon fall to the ground with a small thud. He looked to Rin out of the corner of his eye to see that she was staring up at him with a goofy grin on her face.
"Lord Sesshomaru, who's the woman you have with you?" Rin asked, looking at the woman who stood staring at Jaken. She'd been silent this whole time.
Sesshomaru looked at the girl. "I found her in the village I was at. When I got there it was still burning so I brought her with me so you could have a human companion."
The grin on the young child's face grew. "You brought her for me Lord Sesshomaru?" When Sesshomaru nodded, she smiled & looked at the woman. "What's your name?"
The woman was about to keep her name secret for longer when she noticed the death warning glare that Sesshomaru gave her. He must be very protective of the girl... But how could someone so cruel, have feelings to a little girl? When the girl asked her name again, she came back from her thought world & looked down to the little girl. "My name is Takara. And I'm guessing yours is Rin?"
Rin looked at Sesshomaru & asked, "Is she really joining us Lord Sesshomaru?" When he nodded, a very small, almost hidden smile forming on his lips, Rin hugged his leg tightly since she wasn't tall enough to really hug him.
Sesshomaru smiled inwardly, his heart warming slightly for the girl hugging to his leg. But then the small smile disappeared as his nose caught the scent of a demon, aside from Jaken nearby. Then he noticed it wasn't the complete scent of a youkai or a hanyou, but it was definitely something of a demon scent. He turned his head in the direction of the scent until he found himself looking at Takara & a smirk crossed his lips.
