There was no nervousness in his pale face as his parents opened the front doors of a large stone building invitingly. The white walls leading him to a cheap oak desk wasn't inviting in the least. Henry glared up at his loving parents, asking them again why they were doing this to him. At first he wasn't planning on moving, but a firm hand on his shoulder, and a gentle push forward had him entering the building. With nowhere else to turn, Henry took the hand of the only person he could trust, Rin “Arcbeetle” Nawisaki, his childhood companion. With a chest full of air, he took the first step towards the desk, unaware of the concerned look his parents were sporting.

At the desk was a petite woman with golden hair, possibly of Anglo-Saxon descent. Her rosy cheeks were defined with make up to make her seem at least four years younger than she really was. “Good morning, this must be Hikaru. Hi, I'm Roslyn Tsuki.” She held her hand out towards Henry, but he refused to unclasp grasp with Arcbeetle.

His mother spoke up smoothly. “Yes, this is our son, Hikaru Agata. We have a five o'clock appointment with Doctor Aki.”

“I understand. Please take a seat and the doctor will be right with you.” Everyone took a seat on the far off wall; an awkward silence falling between the small family.

“It's for your own good, Henry.” His father started. His mother nodded, clasping hands with her husband. “You'll get all better here and our mother and I will visit every week.”

Henry opened his mouth to repeat that he didn't need to be here, that he was already fine when the stout doctor entered the room with a wide, welcoming smile. He shook hands with both parents before smiling at Henry. “Good morning, Henry-san. Good morning Arcbeetle-san, let's get you all set up here with the first test. Ros, could you set up Henry a room?”

“Sir, there's only one room left that is within their family's price range.” The two parents grimaced at the reminder of how much this was costing them. “And that's with Tenryo-kun.” The two stared long and hard at each other before Dr. Aki walked up to Henry.

“Put them together. It might be helpful, little Ikki has his way to bring people back.” With that said, Henry watched as the doors to freedom closed, and the endless walls of Riverview Juvenile Psychiatric Hospital opened. “Do you know why you're here, Henry-san?”

“This is a sick joke. I'm not crazy.”

The Doctor frowned sternly. “No one's said you were. We're concerned is all. Why don't you tell me about Arcbeetle?” Mrs. Agata opened her mouth to speak, but Dr. Aki stopped her before she commented. “I wish to hear from you, Henry, about your dear friend, uh, Rin “Arcbeetle” Nawisaki.” He opened the door to his office, leading the three in there to take a seat. Henry dragged over an extra seat next to his own, for Arcbeetle. It was a tendency for people to forget the forth seat.

“We go to Riverview High School together. Been best friends ever since we were in diapers. Actually, he might need some help. Ever since the accident on our bikes, he hasn't talked much. I keep telling dad he needs to see a doctor, but they won't listen.”

Dr. Aki leaned forward on his elbows. “Maybe he's still shocked about the accident? I mean, it was his bike that got hit by the truck. It was probably really scary. Would you like me to talk to him some during our visits?” The teen smiled. Finally someone who understood! “But until then, just tell me however you feel. I know this is scary, but there's nothing wrong about getting psychiatric help when you're growing up. Trust me, if possible, I'd suggest everyone in the world had some.”

“How long am I going to be here?” Henry asked, glancing between the aged man in front of him and his parents.

“We'll see as time goes by. Not forever, I'm sure.” There was a knock at the door. “That must be Ros. She'll show you to your room and let you in on the rules for this place. It's five, so it's dinner time. Are you hungry, Henry?” The boy shook his head. “Well I'm sure Arcbeetle is famished. Why don't you go get a bite to eat? Hm?” The teen smiled before leaving the room.

“Doctor!” Mrs. Agata jumped from her seat. “Why are you stringing him along! Rin is dead!”

“He hasn't accepted it yet, Agata-san,” The doctor sighed. “You can't necessarily tell him that his best friend is dead. According to the reports, he witnessed it all happened and had to find his own way to coop with what happened. That's why he still sees Arcbeetle. He's not that bad though. Arcbeetle isn't talking to him and he does understand there was an accident. We have to ease him in understanding what happened. Only when he accepts the fact will he ever get better.”

Mr. Agata held his wife as she started crying.

From the outside, this place looked small.

Which completely characterized the inside as well. It was an old building, probably built at the beginning of western settlement, trying to bring another culture in an already grim lifestyle. The floors had recently been retouched with a fine bamboo wood tile that tried to ease minds off the white walls. That was until they entered the first room on floor Five (as Ros called it). The walls were painted a bright red with splatters of names from paint projects, signaling years the patients had been there. Every so often a picture hung on the wall, a simple artwork that gave deep emotion of blood or family. Henry couldn't hide the scoff from rising to his lungs. Was he supposed to respect this? Were those red walls supposed to add light to an already grim situation?

Teens glanced up from their doings to see who had entered but were soon returned to prior projects. The recreation room had a small television that hadn't been updated in ten years, judging by some of the marks on the plastic layer. Plush couches were put in a semi circle surrounding the television so groups could sit and watch. Some teens opted instead to sit behind a circular coffee table placed just before the electronic device. Besides that, there was little more electronics. Or anything else. “If you want to read a book, ask the nurse at the desk,” she pointed to a young man sitting at a closed off desk with a couple of books. “You have to check them out and you can't leave the room with them.” Like a closed off library.

Henry rolled his eyes and tightened his grip on Arcbeetle's hand. “It's okay, man. That Doctor Aki guy promised we'd be good here.”

Arcbeetle gave him a worried glance.

“There's your roommate.” Ros pointed towards a small boy sitting in a plush chair in the corner. Emotionless eyes remained intent on a crack in the wall. “Why don't you go over there and introduce yourself?” With a push, he was started in the general direction of the cold child. “Ikki?” The child looked up. Henry shuddered. “This is Hikaru, he's going to be your roommate: do you want to show him around?”

The boy blinked before turning his head. Ros smiled. “Don't feel insulted, Hikaru-san. I didn't think he would anyway.”

His grip on Arcbeetle's hand tightened as people began approaching the area to see who the new guy was. A young girl with shoulder length hair stepped forward. “I'll show him around! I'll even make Ikki join us!”

“Thanks, Erika.” She patted Henry's back. “Just stay in here. You'll be lead to lunch soon.”

“Will I see my parents before they go?” Henry whispered, but the sheepish look from Ros told him no. His parents had abandoned him here with a bunch of nuts. Turning to Arcbeetle, he let out a subtle whisper, What have you got us into Arcbeetle?

Ikki just watched on with cold eyes.

~*~*~Chapter 2~*~*~

His bed was right next to the window. He hadn't been too surprised to find that said window was made of plastic and was bared with steel. Probably to stop any self harm or escape from less sturdy patients. With a side glance at the comatose Ikki on the bed, Henry confirmed this statement. The boy was pale and weak looking, probably from an indefinite time in the hospital. Taking a seat beside Arcbeetle, Henry frowned.

“I can't believe mom put me here.” He grumbled. Arcbeetle's dark head tilted in confusion, wide green eyes sparkled in mischief. A common look on the teen's face. “I mean, I'm not crazy. Not like the people here.”

Arcbeetle's lips curled in a smile and pulled Henry into a small hug. Ever since they were kids the two had always been close. It had led to jokes once they hit high school but Henry didn't care. He felt lonely without his best friend. It was then that he noticed dead dark eyes facing him from his roommate's blank face. “Don't you ever talk?”

“...Leave...”

So he did. Henry frowned and jumped towards the side of his bed, facing the teen lying out on the bed. “What was that?”

“...” The boy turned back towards the ceiling. “...If you're not crazy...then leave.”

“So you admit to being crazy? Is that why you're here?” Henry leaned forward. Arcbeetle did the same, giving his friend a quick glance to confirm they were both there. That neither belonged there.

here? Ikki blinked slowly. “I'm...not crazy. I am his slave. He won't hurt them if I'm his slave.” His lips closed and his eyes dulled further until they were listless again. Henry rolled his eyes. This one was definitely a looney. Turning back to Arcbeetle, Henry reached his hand out to touch his friend's hand, only to have it pull away from under him.

Pale lips moved silently as Arcbeetle directed all attention to Ikki. Henry sighed and laid out against the mattress, curling his body around Arcbeetle. “You were always special at telling if people were okay. You were even better at making them feel good about themselves. I don't know what to say.”

Thin fingers brushed over his hair, leaving a chill against the heated flesh. Opening his eyes, Henry smiled up at his best friend. “Right. We'll be okay.”

The entire scene was seen by the silent Ikki.

“That's my seat.”

Henry glanced up from his pancakes at the person. Dark eyes full of power darkened even more to an ugly sneer. “I was here first,” Henry reasoned. “There are plenty of other seats.”

“Those other seats have been affected by failure. This one isn't.”

Henry rolled his eyes. “I can assure you, this seats the same as that.”

“No it's not! Get off it! Get off! You're infecting it with your failure! Get off! Now!” A fist was brought back, knocking Henry in the jaw. Falling out of the seat, Henry grunted as his butt hit the floor and the assaulter took the seat with his own plate of pancakes. Henry's watched as his own food hit the floor.

“Koji! That was mean!” A soft, timid voice cut the tension in the air. A small redhead bent down beside him, offering her hand. Henry felt awkward. He could see her bones. She was so thin that she was all bones and skin. Sighing, she retracted her handshake. “You must excuse Koji...he's just a bit anal with being the best.”

“My darling Karin! Come back from the low-class disease! If you approach it, you'll be infected!” The boy, Koji, was up and yelling again. The girl, Karin, seemed undaunted by his outburst.

Henry bent forward to pick up his plate and discarded food. Karin took the seat next to Koji and offered one to Henry. “Let me explain some of the things around here, okay?” She smiled sweetly. “My name's Karin Junrei. This is Koji Karakuchi. We've been in this institute for...” she rubbed her cheek in thought, “I suppose five months now. Well, I've been in for four months, but it feels like longer.”

“Uh.” Henry tapped his plate. “Hikaru Agata. Henry for short – my mom's American.” He smiled softly. “And this is Rin Nawasaki,” he addressed his best friend that had taken a seat beside him, “Arcbeetle for short. He was kind of a bug lover...” He waited for criticism from the two.

Koji huffed and tilted his head, whispering sharply, “Just want we needed, another delusional patient.”

On the other hand, Karin reached forward, grasped Arcbeetle's hand and smiled sweetly (something Henry was noting was very common for her). “Well it's very nice to meet you Arcbeetle. I hope we can be the best of friends.” Koji rolled his eyes again at that comment, grasped her hand to curl their fingers, and continued eating. On the other hand, Karin raised her hand and her voice. “Arika!” The girl in the corner glanced her way and quickly made it over to them. “Arika, this is Henry. Henry, this is Arika Amazake, my roommate.” She giggled. “Oh, and this is Arcbeetle. The strong silent type.”

“He's shy.” Henry glanced away.

“That's what they all say,” Arika laughed and took a seat across from Arcbeetle. Slowly approaching behind her was Ikki, dressed down to complete medical garb. Arika waved him over. “Hey babe,” she wrapped her arms around him, he tensed and pulled away. “Aw. I'm sorry, babe.”

Karin scowled. “Arika-san, stop that.” Her voice was stern and to the point. Surprisingly, Arika quieted and started eating, her eyes downcast. “Don't worry about her, Henry. She has split personalities. That was one of them. She's usually just tough on Ikki to behave.”

Henry stared at Arcbeetle, asking him if he was remembering all these names. Koji had a superiority complex that was just out there. Karin obviously had an eating disorder being that she wasn't even touching the food she had. Arika had a split personality or two. And Ikki was a bastard. How fun. “I have therapy today...where do I go?” The groups eyes fell onto him as he recalled just when he had therapy. “It's at noon.” Judging by the clock, he had two hours, but that (besides evaluation with the doctor) was his first stop of the day. Then “mock” classes with a tutor.

“Then you're with us.” Arika stared up from her plate. “Our therapist is Mr. Referee. Though he seems more like a sports referee then some therapist, he's really nice. He lets us bicker and get pent up emotions going. This really does help. I mean...” She picked at her food sheepishly.

“He doesn't sit there and put our problems in the open.” Karin whispered. “There are some therapists that nitpick at everything. Trying to rile you up and talk quietly like it's supposed to help.” Her eyes darkened. “What other therapies do you have?”

“Uh...” Henry recalled. “We have tutors after that. Then we go to traumatic sessions with a doctor.”

“Doctor Drunkard.” Koji murmured. “He handles post traumatic stress disorder. We call him Meta-Evil though.” His fingers tightened around Karin's. She winced but didn't say anything about it as the overhead bell rang. Koji was the first to get up, leaving his tray and the likes behind as he rushed to clean his hands in the sink before it was 'contaminated'. Sighing, Henry picked up the abandoned trays and his own and took them to the proper receptacle before going to wash his hands.

“His slave...” Ikki's voice came. “He will be his slave.”

“Oh, I promise you Ikki. He won't be anyone's slave. Now come on, let's get to the reception area to get the pens and paper. I have to write an article about the new kid!” Henry watched as Arika rushed Ikki out of the room before following close behind. Slaves? That was the second time he heard Ikki make mention of such. What did it all mean?

Beside him, Arcbeetle shrugged his shoulder and tapped his head in thought. His lips moved slowly, questioningly, and only Henry picked up the words.

“Maybe he was sold into slavery?”

~*~*~Chapter 3~*~*~

Ikki opened his eyes.

An array of colors danced before his vision, all surrounding a crying child stained with blood. The boy's parents lay dead a few feet away, their murderers above him. In him. He screamed and cried. Kicked and scratched. But it all was for naught. It wasn't over when they pulled away from him. Guns to his head, they told him to crawl towards his parent's dead bodies and lay with them one last time.

What had he done? He begged for a reason. An absolute response towards the situation at hand. How to get out. How to defend himself.

Why he was forced to do that with his parents bodies. He did what they told him, gun to his head. Cold demands to move. Laughter and mock calling him a sick bastard. And through it all, Ikki could only agree as he cried into his mother's black hair. Lord please kill me. I wish to live no longer.

“Ikki,” A pleasant voice spoke to his side. Ikki took a deep breath, “Are you finished drawing?” The boy glanced sideways towards the art therapist, Referee-sensei (1). The man had given them crayons and paper at the start of their session, instructing them to draw whatever they felt was in their heart. The child looked at his drawing to see what he had drawn during his black out. A boy hidden by reds and browns. A boy dismissed by the blood of other victims. He sobbed. Referee put a hand on his back. “It wasn't your doing, Ikki. Just cry and tell me anything that will make you feel better.”

The child shook his head quickly, holding back the sobs. He couldn't cry. He couldn't tell them. For he was their slave. He would do anything they wanted in order to live.

But how he wanted God to strike him dead.

Henry held up his drawing to the light and looked at Arcbeetle. “Whatcha think? Not bad for someone with no talent!” He laughed to himself before putting the drawing down, Arcbeetle gave him an unamused look. His art was simple. Arcbeetle and himself walking out of the mental hospital with wide smiles on their faces.

He even paid extra attention at drawing Arcbeetle. Blue eyes covered with dark brown hair that was close to black. A buffed up chest from weight lifting since forever. Long legs just perfect for track. Arcbeetle was the best jock out there. He was also a ladies man. Where Henry was still trying to get his first kiss, his dark haired friend had already kissed hundreds of girls and then some.

“Ah! Who's that hunk of a man standing next to that gangly stick!” Karin's voice came next to his ear. Henry jumped and covered his picture. “Is that Arcbeetle? See, I was just seeing a tired looking guy because it was so early in the morning, but I guess that's what Arc-y looks like all the time, huh?” She smiled brightly.

“'Arc-y'?” Henry raised a brow.

“Yep!” Karin took a seat and put her drawing down. It was of a bunch of girls with different figures. The only redhead in it (Henry assumed as Karin) was much wider and...uglier than the other girls. “It's Arcbeetle's nickname because he's so hot!” She grinned.

Rubbing his forehead, Henry chuckled. “Uh-huh.” He didn't know what else to say. “What about your picture? Who's this pretty girl?” He pointed towards the depiction of Karin.

Karin's smile finally broke. “She's not pretty. She's fat and ugly and has to make herself better so the guys will like her and her friends will like her.” She crumpled up the drawing and threw it. Henry fetched it and unraveled it carefully.

“I think,” he started, “she's the most real girl of them all.” Arcbeetle glanced over his shoulder and made a face of the girl with big breasts and no waist. “Arcbeetle thinks so too. He likes the kind of girl who won't break if he touches them. I'd know. There was this one girl he used to like, but they were arm wrestling and playing around and he snapped her arm. He blamed himself for it, but she still follows him everywhere.” Arcbeetle was glaring at him now, almost threatening to kill him.

Still the redhead didn't smile. “You're both stupid. Fat girls don't belong in this world. That's why I have to make myself thin and beautiful so I can belong. You wouldn't know because boys don't understand the importance of appearance!” Jumping from the seat, she stormed off towards the other side of the room.

“That was really nice what you said to her.” Henry jumped again and faced Arika. “She needs it once in awhile. She's so deep in the belief she is overweight she forces herself to be thin. I think she belongs here because of it. No one noticed how thin she was becoming until she passed out because she was always tiny.” Taking a seat Arika grabbed the black crayon from Henry's table. “I need this.”

“You can use it.” Henry frowned, tilting his head to see what this girl had drawn. A newspaper. He rolled his eyes. “Why a newspaper?”

“Because I'm ace reporter of the hospital!” Arika laughed. “I have to keep up with the times. I've only made four papers though. Maybe you should help me! We've gotta make hundreds of them before the days is out, so everyone can read what's going on under our noses?”

“Four issues?”

“No, silly!” Erika laughed. “I only drew out four copies. I need to make one hundred. That's where you come in! Without a printing press we're going to have to work fast! Now! Now! Now!” She shoved a blank sheet of paper in front of Henry. Picking up a brown crayon, Henry began copying. The girl returned to her work. Silence finally falling between them.

“No! Put me down! I'm sorry! Don't hurt me!” Henry turned to face the source of the commotion. Arika was seconds ahead of him, rushing forward to take notes. Ikki. Ikki was being pinned by a doctor and a few nurses. His mouth was being forced open and large fingers were going in. Approaching, Henry listened as Ikki gagged a few times before spitting up wax from the crayons. “Let me die! I don't want them to find me! Touching me! He's touching me!” Ikki's screams became high pitched as he was carried out of the room.

Referee rushed around the room to get the teens back on track. Henry frowned.

“That Ikki, always making a scene.” Arika snorted in another accent. “Someone needs to just chain him down and stuff pins in him.”

“Arika!' Henry hissed. “That's not nice to say!”

The girl raised her eyebrow. “Who? Kid the name's Yuna. And I'm telling the truth. That kid's a psycho. If he wants to die so much, I'll do him the honors.” She glanced around the room. “Now where the hell am I? Fuck.” She approached Referee, raising her fist. “I'm no damn lunatic! I've told you a thousand times I don't belong here!”

Henry rolled his eyes. There were some things he didn't want to deal with. Maybe he could get a nap in before tutoring started.

Work was such a drag. Henry yawned and laid his head on the cabinet, watching kids walk by the convenience store. Sometimes he wondered why he put up with this when he could be having fun with his friends. Yawning loudly, he eyed the clock. Five more minutes and he would be free.

The door chimed and one of his friends entered. Arcbeetle rested against the back wall, staring over some toys that had recently come in stock. His boss followed in the door shortly after, tapping his watch. “New guy's late. You can go home Henry, I'll take the next shift. I want to give that new guy an ear full.” Nodding, Henry entered the employee lounge in the back of the store and grabbed his skateboard.

“Let's go, man!” Arcbeetle shouted. “Bikini season's almost over! You haven't seen the models yet.” Opening the door, Arcbeetle waited for Henry to follow.

“I'm coming, I'm coming. Thanks for the work day, boss!” Henry yelled as he left the shop, followed by his best friend. Skateboards down, the two raced across the street towards the main strip leading down towards the beach. Henry moved fast, getting in the lead. “Anyone hot?”

“You should've seen the girls yesterday! Man would I like to fall into those pillows!” Arcbeetle laughed lowly. Henry closed his eyes at the thought of his friend doing so as they were crossing the street. This side of town was rarely busy, it was nice. “Henry!” Arcbeetle shouted. Henry opened his eyes just as he was pushed forward off his skateboard and a horn blared from a truck. Not a thought ran through his head as his head hit the concrete and something slammed up against the back of his skull, rendering him unconscious.

~*~*~Chapter 4~*~*~

Ikki touched the mirror that was in the nurse's station. It wasn't usually allowed for the patients to look in a mirror, not that self image was bad or anything, but what was to stop the patient from breaking the glass and ending his or her own life? Ikki pressed his fingers against the cool surface. Who was to say he wasn't going to smash that ugly image into a million fragmented pieces just as those men had done to him on his seventh birthday. To rip away his life as they had his parent's lives.

He pushed away, getting those thoughts out of his head as he heard laughter.

The new patient, Henry, was different than most. His half-American side was only apparent in his tone of dialect, the rest of him was very Japanese. He was constantly talking to someone or another, finding out what was wrong with people in here. Why they were locked up like animals at the zoo. Never to embrace to that of society who noted them unfit for normality. Girls that pushed pretty Karin to a lethal starvation. The desire to escape abuse that had sent Arika into hiding and a strong woman demanding attention out. A parents preening that he was better than the rest that brought Koji into an antisocial personality that could cause harm to people 'below him'. They were normal.

No. Henry was normal.

So what if he was too old to have what others would deem an imaginary friend? He was just a teen pulled away from his best friend without any questions asked. All he needed was reassurance that, though yes, Arcbeetle was dead, he was still alive. Ikki pushed his vision away. That teen was making him care too much. No one cared about him. No one came for him. No one talked to him...

“What's wrong, Ikki? Aren't you going to watch television with the rest of us?” Arika rushed towards him. “The nurse said the patrons donated a television for the recreation hall with more channels! Don't you like baseball?”

Ikki laid his arms in front of him, bringing his upper body forward.

“Ah. Well...did you hear? The nurses are going to bring us to the ice cream shop after the game. We can get a one scoop cone of any flavor. Or a bowl if you want. Henry said that if you ask the employees nicely they'll make one scoop two different flavors. Ikki, what's wrong?” Arika brought her hand to the boy's back. Ikki flinched. “Maybe you can ask the doctors to go visit your parent's grave? It's around the time you're suppose to pray for the dead anyway.”

Ikki frowned. He didn't want to see his parents. They caused all this. If they just hadn't have opened the door.

“...Or maybe you can have Henry tell you a story? He's really good with those. He was telling us a time that he thought his school was haunted and...” She rambled. Ikki sat up and walked out of the room, much to the Nurse's chagrin. He wanted to see the doctor anyway. He wasn't feeling well.

Henry watched as Ikki left the reception area. Excusing himself from all the pretty, yet anorexic ladies, he had followed close behind. The nurse on duty had stopped him, only to dismiss him again when he said he was going to get some water from the water fountain. His throat was, no thanks to having spoken (argued) with Koji that Arcbeetle truly did exist.

So, halfway down the hall, he stared back to see if the nurse's attention was no longer on him – which it wasn't – and took off down the hall Ikki had disappeared. It surprised him when he ran right into his target. Ikki tumbled to the ground, just as he did, but didn't sit up nearly as quickly as Henry did. He was glaring though. The first real expression on his face that Henry had seen purposely. Wasn't what he really wanted though. “Sorry.” He helped Ikki to his feet.

The boy pulled away, wrapping his arms around his body protectively. Eyes narrowed and filled with murder, Ikki's face greened as he turned and threw up. Henry greened himself as he yelled down the hall for a nurse. In no time the nurses were carrying Ikki off and all the patients wanted all the details from the pale Henry.

Arika met him halfway to the recreation room, whispering in his ear, “a few of us are going to party tonight. After lights out.”

When the nurse on duty stuck his head in that night to do his checks, Henry had pretended to be asleep. When the door was shut firmly behind, he sat up and pulled on new pants. “Ikki, I'm leaving.” He told the dull face on the other bed. “Do you want to come?” Ikki blinked. Smiling, Henry dragged the boy out of bed and started towards the door. “I wonder how the hell they're having a party and where.” Again Ikki blinked. “What? You've never been to one of Arika's parties.” The quiet boy shook his head negative. “Guess we're in for a surprise, let's go.”

Henry stared outside, intent to make sure no nurses were in the halls doing checks. Besides some back up lights flickering towards the bathroom, it was quiet. Taking Ikki's hand, Henry glanced behind him at the bed where Arcbeetle sat. “Come on man, or I'm leaving you here for the shadows!” He grinned as Arcbeetle rushed off the bed. Ikki frowned as they started towards the recreation room. The television was on, a music channel flickering across the screen but the sound coming in flawlessly. Snacks stolen from the stores around the ice cream store were placed around the table – a small bag of chips, half a chocolate bar, dry noodles, and a crumpled bag of skittles. It wasn't much, Henry knew from some of the parties he and Arcbeetle had been to, but he was sure to these kids at the hospital it was a feast. Even Koji's eyes were watering as he nibbled on a small piece of chocolate.

Ikki left his side, taking a solemn seat as far away from the television as he could be. From the side of the room, Arika waved happily. “You boys came just in time. Karin's with Kikuhime(1) going to turn on the lights.” Henry nodded as the lights flickered on before a rushing of feet returned to the room. Nine people had shown for the party so far – Arika, Karin, Henry, Arcbeetle, Ikki, Koji, Kikuhime (an autistic girl who had been abandoned at the hospital), Kagamiyama(2) another autistic boy put in there by the orphanage, Iwanoi(3) a severely depressed teen who'd tried committing suicide three times. A colorful bunch, Henry smiled at Arcbeetle who was standing at the nurse's station.

Walking over there, Henry placed his hand near Arcbeetle's chilly one. “What are you looking at?” He stared down and met with Ikki's folder. Like a blessing from the gods! Henry took a seat at the desk when Arcbeetle stood. Fingers brushing against the blue folder, Henry opened it. I shouldn't be doing this. But that didn't mean he wasn't going to. He stared at the first page with fascination. Ikki Tenryou, admitted date: June 15, 19XX. Age: 7...

Henry growled. That was eight years ago. No wonder Ikki was so antisocial and weird. He hadn't seen normal life since he was a little kid. Grumbling, he continued reading. Tenryou was admitted to the hospital after police found him with his dead parents, a week after their murder. Sexual assault was relevant on the child, but it had occurred the week before possibly around the time of his parents death. It is believed that he spent the entire period cuddled into his parent's bodies after their deaths. Gun residue was found on...

What the...

Henry's eyes flooded across the page at the report concerning what had happened to Ikki Tenryou. Sexual assault by multiple men, parents watching the attack before being killed themselves. No one suspected a thing, leaving a terrified seven year old with corpses for two weeks. Post traumatic stress disorder at its worse. Henry stared back at Arcbeetle. “No wonder...”

“Hey, Henry, Arcbeetle, whatcha reading?” Arika pressed against the counter of the desk, leaning forward. “Oh! Is that Ikki's report? Let me see!” She reached, but Henry pulled it away.

“No. I'm putting this away and we're leaving.” He slid the folder into the desk drawer and stood up. “Ikki, are you ready to leave?”

The dark haired teen wasted no time rushing over to Henry to leave the cramped space. “You'd better get to bed yourselves. Finish your food and hide. Nurses will probably be back.” He started down the hall. From the corner of his eye he could see Arcbeetle stick his tongue out childishly. Staring down at the younger teen, Henry couldn't help but feel he was making a difference in the boy's life. He also couldn't help but say as he laid the teen to bed, “I'm sorry, Ikki.”

NOTE: I'LL BE USING JAPANESE NAMES.

Arika: Split Personality Disorder. Now usually someone with this disorder wouldn't be in a hospital, but I'm going to establish she volunteered to go in because she has one personality that his destructive and aggressive. She'll change her personality often from physically-dependent, emotional, withdrawn, hardheaded. She'll even let it known there's another “part” of her that has a life outside the walls. We'll just have to wait and see.

is. Koji: Narcissitic Personality Disorder. This is defined as a mental illness primarily characterized by extreme focus on oneself, and is maladaptive, rigid, and persistent condition may cause significant distress or impairment. In other words. Koji only thinks about himself and if something falls out of place or might affect him, he freaks out. I put this a little to the extreme. Again, this would get medication not put into a home, but I'm figuring his parents just wanted him under stricter care where no one will find him and taint the family name.

Karin: Eating Disorder. Again, not something you'd go to a mental hospital for. There are programs for this, but I think her parents would put her away until she's “all better” for the world. Please note: no disorder can entirely be fixed. This will follow her her whole life. She might be eating better later, but there are somethings that won't change. Her parents just want her “thickened” up in a sense.

Ikki: Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, I'll be covering Ikki's story later. But PTSD is mostly just high anxiety that occurs after a person sees something that can later influence behavior. Ikki has several problems than just this, but it becomes apparent what's wrong when he starts telling his past.
