Metroid Prime
System:  Nintendo Gamecube
Story:  Samus Aran(a girl to those of you who still aren't sure), a bounty hunter raised by the mysterious Chozo race, recieves a destress signal from her home planet of Tallon IV.  Following it, she finds herself trying to defeat the threat of the maniacal Space Pirates, and their hideous experiment, Metroid Prime.
Comments:  Metroid Prime is an awesome experiance.  The flat, uncomplicated plot certianly doesn't suck you in, but rather the incredible gameplay.  It's a first person shooter, with terrific graphics, music, sound, weapons, and enemies.  The bosses are so awesome... The enemies and puzzles make this a challenging game sure to last a while.  Metroid Prime took a landslide victory in the 2002 Nintendo Power Awards.  It won awards for Best Overall Game, Best Game -- Nintendo Gamecube, Best Graphics -- Nintendo Gamecube, Best Sound, Ugliest Character(The Omega Pirate... I don't know about ugly, but he's certianly awesome to fight!), Best New Weapon/Item(Phazon Beam... aw, heck yeah!), Best New Villain(Meta Ridley), and Harder Than College(Beating Meta Ridley, but in that case I'm gonna pass college with flying colors! 8-) )... In fact, the only category it was nominated for, but didn't win was Best Musical Score, but it still got second.  Metroid Prime is an awesome game... you gotta play it.
