I'd jump at the chance to work with them anytime." -Peggy Monaghan, Producer, APRN Song of the Year Concert 7/10 Split started playing together in January 2001 as a blues jam band but has since evolved into a very origanal, tight blend of melodic contemporary rock. The founding members, Lucas,a senior, Andrew and Thayne, juniors, also make up the rythm section of the West High Jazz Band. Most of 7/10 Split's music is original , with Lucas writing much of the Lyrics and the band working collectively to write the music. The band also covers songs from Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Neil Young, and R.E.M. In November 2001, 7/10 Split captured 1st place in the Youth Division of the "APRN Song of the Year Contest", a statewide songwriter's competition that drew over 225 entries with judges in Anchorage, Juneau, and Fairbanks. As a result 7/10 Split were one of the featured performers at the Song of the Year Concert held at the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts. From the P.A.C. to the U.A.A. Pub, 7/10 Split has played at numerous venues across Anchorage. With recent shows attracting hundreds of fans, it is obvious that 7/10 Split has found a comfortable niche in the Anchorage music scene. 7/10 Split is influenced by the music of Jimi Hendrix, Dada, Counting Crows, Built to Spill, Neil Young, and Stevie Ray Vaughn.
