* Bloomfield-50 Years of SFO/ 1922-1978 The San Francisco Opera. |
1967 * This Rosenkavalier had the first really exciting Italian Tenor since the earlier day with Kurt Baum would stride out and do magnificent battle with “Di Rigori Armato.” The new man was Robert Ilosfalvy, the Hungarian whose tone was so big, sweet and ringing, one’s breath felt swept away. And the glorious sound was no sonic mirage. |
Italian Tenor (Ein Sanger) |
1946 * Kurt Baum was a huge-voiced and amusingly foppish Italian tenor. |

Aria Data Base for Italian Tenor |
"Rosenkavalier" bristles with smaller roles, and not one was done with anything less than aplomb on Saturday. David Cangelosi and Catherine Cook were delectable as the Italian schemers Valzacchi and Annina, and Robert McPherson brought the first act to a stunned stop with his strikingly beautiful account of the Italian Tenor's aria./ 2007 Review |
