In SFO 2008-2009 Season Luling Liu Young - Bonesetter's Daughter |
The all-Chinese cast, largely drawn from the Lyon production, clearly know their roles well encompassing a range of styles with ease. Haijing Fu (Seikyo) and Xiuling Li (Lan) combine effectively as the lovers, with a particularly heartfelt love duet in Act II. Warren Mok (Prince) brings an almost heldentenor like ardour to his role, while Ning Liang (Lu/Lu Yu) brings a wealth of experience to the two roles she plays. The cast is completed by Dong-Jian Gong (Emperor)./ Tea Review |

(Present-day Luling is sung by Ning Liang in a thrilling performance.)/ SFCV Mezzo-soprano Ning Liang brings ferocity and tenderness to the role of the old LuLing - you can understand why Ruth responds to her with both affection and rage. / SFGate |
