From Italy bass Andrea Silvestrelli fully commands the stage as Sarastro both in voice and stature, producing lovely low tones so essential to the characterization of the role./ Review
The one perfromer who really impressed me was Andrea Silvestrelli. Hearing a good Basso in grand opera is almost as rare as hearing a good tenore. This is a big man, with a huge bass voice, who can also act quite convincingly./ Rigoletto-Review
As Philippe Andrea Silvestrelli's, basso sounded a good deal more profundo than cantante so that his natural fach would seem to be more fitted for Sarastro and Wagner rather than Verdi. Nonetheless he sang with some power and acted with conviction even if his conception of the role (or John Caird's) felt decidedly overwrought. The Garden Scene too was a bit of a farce, replete with twirling parasols, and at the point where a mandolin is called for in the text, an umbrella was passed between members of the chorus.  Why?/ Review
