This day we tried more experiments on error detection. We still didn't get much idea of what was happening. Maybe it is due to the fact that we don't understand how erros are detected and which registers they trigger. We summed up all about error detection.

Michael Fuhs loaned us a RS-232/485 module on this day. We spent half a day just trying to intergrate the module into the existing hardware. The second half was spend figuring out how to connect a DB-9 plug to the connecters of the module. Through this we know of some of the names of the wires of a serial port.

Wednesday 25.06.2003

This day we connected the DB-9 plug into the desktop computer's serial port. We ran the terminal emulator "HyperTerminal" and we tried to establish communication with the module. It didn't work for this day.

Thursday 26.06.2003

We continued trying to communicate and finally the module can recognise the signals coming from the terminal emulator. It worked when we set the baud rate and parity checking according to the defult settings of the module.

This day we installed a programme called "GraphWorX32". This programme visualises the implementation of INTERBUS. For example in a production line, the graphics of the conveyor belt and the processes' sensors will be shown. The numeric readings can also be displayed and this enables the operater to monitor its activities.

Saturday 28.06.2003

On this day I went to Warner Bros MovieWorld in Germany. A train ride of 3 hours each way.

Sunday 29.06.2003

On this day I visited Cologne. (Köln) I climbed the Dom's tower and went to the Chocolate Museum to see the production line of chocolate.
