nick's bio

Nicholas Gene Carter came into the world on the 28th January 1980 in Jamestown, New York. Nick is the eldest of five children and as the big brother he regularly had to look after his younger siblings when their parents were away. When Nick was four years old his family moved to Ruskin, Florida.

In fourth grade Nick seized the opportunity of playing the lead role in 'The Phantom of the Opera'. His parents were so amazed by their son's talent that they only too gladly encouraged and supported his wish to become an actor and singer wherever, and whenever, they could.

Their sweet blond boy soon developed into an in-demand child actor who had parts in numerous advertisements and TV series. For two years he sang as the warm-up before game shows. At the age of eleven he secured a supporting role in the movie 'Edward Scissorhands'.

In 1992, Nick, a Aquarius, won the popular 'New Amateur Hour' competition. After appearances in ads for 'The Monkey Store' and the Florida State Lottery the popular teenager was offered a solo deal from Disney for film and music productions.
To everyone's great surprise this much sought-after young man declined the offer. Nick, you see, had other plans. And these plans were the Backstreet Boys.

Although Nick is a heart-throb for millions of girls he is rather shy and reserved. Nor does he think much of lifting weights or pumping iron. While his friends wear themselves out in the hotel gym Nick is more likely to be slumbering in bed.

It might be hard to believe, but the cute one was never popular when he was in school.
"I was very different from the others, and I was away from class a lot ... so the guys never liked me. I never got any of the beautiful girls, either!"
In Fact, Nick has a very mature, down-to-earth view of himself. A lot of girls might think he's perfect, but he knows full well that he's not.
"I'm a normal human being, and so are the other guys, and I make mistakes and they make mistakes and I just try to live my life to the fullest. I try to have fun, and that is all I'm doing right now."

On stage you're going to see Nick behind the drums a little bit - and maybe more to come. When he was eleven, he began taking lessons on the instrument, as if he didn't already have enough to do with his time, and he's kept at it, until he's now good enoughto play along with Kevin ( and now A.J. ) in concert. In the future, he can see himselfdoing more drumming, too, and maybe even playing some rock.

Like all the others, Nick has a passion for basketball. But there's something else he does, which is spend a lot of time drawing. You're likely to find him backstage while the Boys wait around with a pen and some paper, doing cartoons of everyone. He's even come up with the idea of a Backstreet Boys comic book, which he's now finished!
" I'm looking for someone to put my ideas down on paper," he says, " as I just don't get enough time to do all the illustrations myself."
