Text Box: Litter-training

Litter-training your bunny can bring you lots of convenience as it will save your litter and also it will stop your bunny from dirtying your house with their hard-to-clean urine and poo.U have to have a lot of patience in litter training your bunny because different bunnies have different characters like us humans, some learn fast but some maybe slower while some are just stubborn.I find that those commercial litter trays made for bunnies are quite useless for my bunnies, the reason is that it is too small and cosy, making them think the litter trays are their beds, they prefer to rest on them instead of peeing in them.So I think rectangular plastic boxes similar to cat litter boxes or actualli cat litter boxes (if u don’t mind the price) is the best litter trays for bunnies.Firstly the litter tray must be large enough for your rabbit, and that is not when they are sitting down,it’s must accommodate the whole of your pet rabbit when they are lying down that means the whole full length of your bunny. This is such that the bunny will not feel squeezy and they will be more comfortable in the litter tray. What to put in the litter tray? I recommend the more absorbant breeders’ choice cat litter which is a recycled paper litter.Clumping Cat litter are discouraged because bunnies may ingest it and caused the litter to clump in their body which is dangerous to them.Nor do I encourage pine shavings as it is rumoured to cause liver disease due to the components in pine shavings besides it’s does not absorb much.I also discourage corn cobs as it’s pricky and not suitable for our bunnies,it also turns mouldy quickly. So I personally still prefers BC cat litter.Pour Breeders’ Choice into the litter tray and spread it out evenly, also remember to put hay in the litter tray too so that bunnies will eat the hay and poo in the litter tray.Notice where the spot when the bunny always pee at and put the litter tray there.Try scooping the darkened litter with the pee into the litter tray, bluffing the bunny into believing that he always pees there.Change the litter tray as soon as all the litter is moist and dirty (normally it will be dirtied around 2 days),wash the litter tray clean and add the litter and the hay again.

It will take some time befoe they get litter trained and U will be really proud of your smart little bunny when they do.And you will be really amazed at how smart they actually are.

Look at the litter tray, and notice the darker part of the litter that’s where he pees. And almost all the poo are in the litter tray. He’s litter trained.
