Interview with a Vampire...
Fallentreeman: OK, Mo. Let me ask you how you got
you nick "dEdDaWg"?
dEdDaWg: Well... me and some of my friends were really
into the Mechwarrior 3 computer game, and then Rainbow Six
and Rogue Spear. We decided that since we played so much,
we'd form a clan. We went about choosing cool names for ourselves.
Looking for inspiration, I used a twist of one of our in jokes...
we'd used fatalistic names like 'road kill' or ''kilt kat',
so i chose dEdDaWg.
FTM: I suppose the alternating caps was so your nick
would look cool. Don't you find it ironic that as a 'dead
dog', you chose to play with an Undead army?
DD: Hmmm... never really thought about it that way.
Yeah, it is a bit ironic, isn't it?
FTM: What made you decide to pick up Warhammer? Was
it the minis or what?
DD: Well, that's a long story. A long time ago, I
got into roleplaying games coz I saw some minis at a place
called Leasure Craft. This was waaay long ago. I was 10, I
think. The people in the shop somehow convinced me to get
D&D... you know, the red box edition. Then when I got
to secondary school, I started wargaming. I picked up a copy
of Rogue Trader. I couldn't afford the minis then. And then
as the years progressed, I picked up Epic, then Warhammer
Fantasy Battles and then 40K. I played the last two editions
of WH.
FTM: Right. So the question is: how come Vampire Counts?
DD: I've always liked the look of undead. I only picked
up undead purely for asthetic reasons. Little did I know,
the undead are pretty powerful. Now that GW has split the
army into VC and Khemri, I had to make a choice. When I got
the VC 'grimoire', I saw Daniel Tunbridge's and Mark Bedford's
conversions, and I though, "Man, that's so cool! I'm
gonna convert my army like them." I think their minis
have a lot of character and look good to boot. I am gonna
miss my skeleton chariots and catapults... and especially
my lone mummy. Hahaha!
FTM: Have you decided to collect a new army or use
your old one? What kind of unit composition are you thinking
of?
DD: I was thinking of building a 2,000 point army
of pure undead evil. (rubs hands with glee). Firstly, for
the general, I thought a vampire lord or count would be good.
I'd have him on foot, surrounded by a regiment of skeletons.
Then I'd have a necromancer and a vampire thrall. I'm not
too sure whether I'd stick them with a regiment of zombies,
but I know I'm gonna have a frickin' big regiment of zombies
- about 40 or so. Naturally, I'm gonna field the grave guard
and at least one regiment of black knights... I'm a big fan
of cavalry. Not sure about the rest, though. Maybe some dire
wolves and a spirit host. That's about it.
FTM: Well, I think that's all the time we have for
now. Thanks for doing this interview.
DD: No probs, man. Nice talking to you.
