National Inter Schools Track
& Field Championships 2008
July 2008 Choa Chu Kang Stadium
| The A-Girls
Team did well this year to come in 4th despite having to covercome many
setbacks along the way. Thanks to Shalom Danielle See, Ng Wan Ching,
Lynette Tan, Grace Yeo, Amanda Goh, Liow Xinru contributions that made
this achievement possible. Much credit must be given to the entire
team with each and everyone keeping their spirit high and giving their
very best for the competition.

| Shalom See ran an
excellent 400 m race to emerge champion as well as in establishing a new
record of 58.65s. She came in second in the 200 m race in a time of
26.66s. Wan Ching gave us the precious points by coming in 7th in
the 100 m. Captain Lynette Tan delivered the points through her 400
m hurdles when she came in 7th. Grace Yeo ran a good 400 m
hurdles to come in 4th. Xinru helped the team through her 400 m race
in which she came in 6th and her 200 m in which she came in 8th. In
the jumps event, Amanda Goh came in 6th in the long jump and 7th in the
triple jump. The Girls 4x400 m team (Liow Xinru, Grace Yeo, Ng Wan
Ching, Shalom See) came in 2nd in a good time of 4:13.84. The 4x100 m Girls team (Liow Xinru, Grace Yeo,
Ng Wan Ching, Shalom See) came in 4th. In the B-Girls, Ramandeep won her first track medal (bronze)through her 1500 m effort despite having the final 3000 m the day before in which she came in 4th. It was an excellent achievement indeed considering that she had to run many races before the 1500 m finals. |
|
| In the A-Boys as usual, the competition was extremely tough. Jonathan Leow (Vice-Captain) contributed the most points through his Discus event in which he came in 7th. Another good achievement was by Ananda (from Hockey) who ran his best to come in 8th in the highly contested 800 m. Johnson Lee and Edmund Choo made it to the 200 m and 400 m semifinals respectively. |

National Inter Schools X-Country
Championships 2008
23 Apr 2008 CCAB/Botanical Garden/NUS
| The weather for the race was rather horrible. It was hot and humid. Ramandeep ran a fantastic race despite her stomach upset. She ran courageously from the start in the B-Girls Division and she was rewarded with a medal at the 9th placing. Ananda from NJ Hockey Team too won a hard fought victory to come in 17th position. It was not easy for him as he had to juggle hockey training and make do with whatever x-country training that he has time for. The bulk of the NJ X_country B-Division and A-Division teams also are new runners. This race was certainly a test of their speed and endurance. A tough race indeed! |

Despite the wet weather and
terrain, Captain Lynettte Tan ran an excellent race to come in 6th position in
the Women U20 category. Lawerence Kam also ran an excellent race to come
in 4th in the Men U17 category. The Boys and Girtls ran well in this race
with many of them achieving their personal best. Well done everyone.

Ramandeep Kaur 07IP01 ran an
excellent race in this competition (U17 category) to come in 6th position.
Captain Lynettte Tan came in 12th position in the highly contested Women
Open Category. We were able to field a rather large team consisting of
students from the IP1 all the way to JC2. Many of them were running a
major x-country race for the very first time. It was a time for them to
show what they can do after 4 months of training.

Over the weekend of 29 Mar and 30 Mar 08, the NJC Track Team participated in the above competition. The NJC Track Team won the championship title at the SPH Relay Championships 2008 under the A-Division Girls category. It was a hard fought victory over the other top sprint teams from the other Colleges and including the Singapore American Schools. The Girls Team came in 2nd position against the Singapore American School (in different heats) in the 4x400 m missing out of the gold by just 0.19 s. On the consolation, we came in 2nd position in the 4x200 m winning VJC by just 0.05 s. In the 4x100 m, we came in 4th losing to VJC by just 0.25 s. The Girls Team gathered 25 points out of a possible 32 points. This is the 4th time we won the championships in the last 6 years from 2003 to 2008. An achievement indeed. This championship title is dedicated to Mr Stephen Loh. We also field a new team of boys. All of them are either new athletes or athletes from other CCAs. Thanks to them, we are able to send a full set of relays. They competed in all the events with the 4x800 m having the best results. The 4x800 m team comprising of Ananda, Joel, Lawrence, and Aaron did us proud by coming in 4th. Well done.

A tribute to Mr Stephen Loh... A Good Man
"One of our teacher in-charge, Mr Stephen Loh, passed
away in Cambodia while representing the country in a Dragon Boat Race. A
freak accident took him away from us. Though he was with us for only half a
year, he gave us hope and helped us in many ways. He was always there for
us. He spent much time listening, coaching, and always encouraging
us. The time we spent together was short, but we can feel the bond, the
friendship and the confidence he gave us. We will miss you but we
will always remember your guidance, your warm smile, and your kind heart. "
... Mr Lim Jan '08
"As I visited you recently during the Qing Ming period, I could not help
myself from some shedding tears. May the team remember your guidance and
you by doing their very best in competitions and in their
lives." ... Mr Lim Apr '08
" While many may have forgotten about you, we certainly will not. Thanks to your guidance and watching over us, the athletes have done well this year. The fighting spirit that you have given us will keep us strong and our spirit high." ... Mr Lim Dec '08
