Risty Wilde appeared during the first episode of the second season. She fast became friends with Rogue and the two became almost inseparable. It wasn't long though before we actually found out that Risty was really the missing Mystique in disguise. In order to keep tabs on everyone and to get inside information about the X-men, Mystique continued to use her Risty persona well into the third season.
Unfortunately for Mystique, during a concert Rogue's powers went haywire and the two bumped into one another. Rogue immediately absorbed her powers and memories and knew the truth about Risty. Later Mystique tried to convince Rogue that she only did it to be close to her and she told Rogue that she was really her adopted mother. Rogue is still unsure what to believe, but is devastated by the loss of her friend and the betrayal of her "mother".
