Aoi is Sana's cousin and her parents own the apartment building that Sana lives in. She prefers to be called Aoi-chan instead of Aoi-san, despite the fact that she is a year older than Sana. She wears glasses and has a busty physique. She loves to read books and is very energetic and clumsy. She has a very high-pitched voice and child-like character. Despite being childish, Aoi has a very caring personality, and never fails to aid a friend in need.

She is really happy to see Sana again after he left Sakuranomori a few years ago. Ever since his return, she has been helping him out due to the fact that he will have to live alone in his own apartment from the day of his return. She often bring leftover foods to him and even prepare bento for him to eat in school. She and Sana always walk to school together. She has been regarded by Hinako as her Onee-sama due to the fact that she seems to understand Hinako a lot especially about her crush for Syusuke.

Ever since her fishing and bathhouse trip, the usually timid Aoi become enthusiastic about thrill rides after she tried the water slide at that bathhouse. When she and her friends head to the theme park recently, Aoi attempt to try all the thrill rides available so much so that Hinako cannot keep up with her anymore. She has a few times entered Sana's apartment and seeing either him or him with Hinako in misguiding situations. But despite all that, Sana is able to explain to her in the end. It seems as though that Aoi has a lot of confidence towards Sana and is somewhat fond of him as well.

When Syuri and Syusuke left town, Aoi is very unhappy. She does tries to cheer her other friends up but she herself is just too sad. But feeling that she is the eldest amongst her friends, she decided to be strong. That is why she fake illness and tell Sana that she is not going to the camping trip with him and Nanaka. She wants Sana to cheer Nanaka alone, knowing that he will be able to do it the best without her. Aoi's mother knew about that and is happy to see her daughter finally grown up. 

Years later, Aoi is seen meeting Asami and accompany her to Nanaka's musical performance.
