Billy Cobham
My favorite Cobham stuff is his work with JOHN MCLAUGHLIN AND THE MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA, but the GEORGE DUKE and MILES DAVIS albums are definitely worth a listen or two. In 1998, he recorded an album with the band, JAZZ IS DEAD, which plays jazz rearrangements of GRATEFUL DEAD songs (?). No wonder it died!
"SPECTRUM" (left) is an incredible album with TOMMY BOLIN on guitar and JAN HAMMER playing keys and synthesizer.
"Hey, jazz isn't dead!
It's how I make my living!"
"I'm always changing things up and trying to place myself in different settings. That's exciting for me and keeps it challenging. I wouldn't want to play the same style the same way. Mix it up, man."

"There are some experiences in life which should not be demanded twice
from any man, and one of them is listening to the Brahms Requiem."
