DREAM THEATER is, in my opinion, the best recent (though they've been around since the mid-'80s) mainstream band that is being halfway successful commercially. Unfortunately, there are a LOT of bands out there that are nearly as good as Dream Theater, but they are seldom heard on the radio in most cities. In Indianapolis, where I live, there are NO decent radio stations (with the exception of the classical station I listen to during drive times). | ||||||||||||||||

| Their 1999 release (below) is an incredible concept album! Imagine the offspring of a menage a trois of PINK FLOYD'S "DARK SIDE OF THE MOON," QUEENSRYCHE'S "OPERATION MINDCRIME," and BERNSTEIN'S genius that has mated with incredibly talented musicians and you might begin to get an idea of how good this album is. The overture is a condensed version of "METROPOLIS: PART I," which you should listen to before hearing this new CD (it's on the CD "IMAGES AND WORDS"). The rest of the CD alludes to Part I but with different flavorings. This CD might very well be the best release of the progressive era. I hope they make so much money with this CD that they never again need to compromise their amazing talents. | ||||||||||||||||||
