Quite possibly, the best band that has ever existed. Through all its incarnations, it has remained a band that plays music for the intellectually unchallenged. The sole, common component of all the CRIMSON bands is the laughing man in this photo, ROBERT FRIPP. Sitting with him is ADRIAN BELEW on one of his sporadic visits to planet earth. Behind Adrian is BILL BRUFORD, the world's greatest drummer. On the right is TONY LEVIN, the SHEL SILVERSTEIN of the CHAPMAN STICK. This photo is from Crimson's mid-'80s period.

Below is a sampling of a few of my favorite KING CRIMSON releases. There are a plethora of Crimson sites on the Web if you want to see their entire catalog, which is encouraging because it indicates that there are at least a few intelligent people wandering this planet.

"I've found it very interesting, actually, that in supermarkets, ladies will take pains to make sure that what they naturally sense as being incompatible, they'll insulate them in some way in the bag, so you won't have cheese put next to bathroom cleanser for example. They'll first of all stick it in some kind of bag which they sense will in some way keep the essence of the two from mingling. I find that quite intriguing. They wouldn't have cheese right next to bathroom cleanser." ROBERT FRIPP |

"Frippertronics is defined as that musical experience which results at the (intersection) of Robert Fripp and a small and appropriate level of technology which is my Les Paul, the Fripple board, the Fripp pedal board of fuzz, wah-wah and volume pedals and two Revoxes. And it's my attempt to promote human contact in the performance situation. ROBERT FRIPP |

POSTSCRIPT "The whole problem can be stated quite simply by asking, 'Is there a meaning to music?' My answer would be, 'Yes.' And 'Can you state in so many words what the meaning is?' My answer to that would be, 'No.'" AARON COPLAND |
