Not Born Yesterday Show Review | |||||||||

A rockin' New Years Eve | |||||||||
It may seem as though all that is left of the Pasadena punk scene is pop punk Blink 182 acts and other main stream sounds using the label punk to appear underground. Seeing NBY play is a real kick in the head, with driving music and meaningful lyrics I know why I love punk and why it will never die. On New Years eve at around 10:30 Not Born Yesterday was getting ready for their set. That night they were playing with Necrophilia and two new acts "Shade of Gray" and "Intomia" at Warung Cafe, now almost the "alternative" to No Future Cafe. While they played the house was packed. They have a very tight and original style and I would say they are the best of the old school and new school worlds. With songs ranging widely from " American Rot" a very political song to "Phase" a song about people telling you that things in life such as punk are a phase. Or at least that's how I interpret it.. Anyways the show was a blast and I would say the strongest aspect of NBY would probably be being able to maintain a melodic sound without sounding poppy, still a very hard band. Well this is my first review so sue me and bite my ass if it sucks. -Matt |
