This marks the first
Louisville show for Shade, Pittsburgh's most disparate quintet. Shade's LP 'Forever
Now, Nowhere Tomorrow' release offers an adroit and withdrawing sound. Shade
definitely knows how to manipulate and sculpt words into aesthetic emotion.
This album presents an axiom, poising on the fence teetering reality with
dreaming. They don't need flashy tinfoil tones to express themselves. Shade
strays away from high end noises, unlike most bands represented by way too many
cymbal crashes designed to create confusion, only to cover their immaturity.
'Forever Now, Nowhere Tomorrow' balances the proportion of putting thought into
lyrics, takes it one step further and molds them as an art form, then organizes
it with a nice blend of wonderful instrumental compositions, all carefully
placed. Everything down to the drums have different rhythms that never get old.
They don't stick to the beaten path of the same over used and over abused drum
patterns. Their music is sparkling, shimmering, and somber. Echoing doldrums
lurk around the corners of songs like "Marooned" and
"Breathless". The notes fall like rain, melting one into the
pavement, and evaporating thoughts back into their instruments. This album
projects the reciprocity of self-disclosure. I'm not going to lump them into
any categories nor will I link them to any similar bands. You just have to settle
for going down to Rudyard Kiplings and finding out on your own.
I won't leave you
completely hanging though, the least I can do is list bands they've played
with...
Longwave, Dead Meadow, Phaser, The Modey Lemon, Judah Johnson, lowsunday,
Tabula Rasa, Other Desert Cities, The Sheila Divine, and Oh My God.
