B-2 and FUNNY FACE are return doe kids from two Milk goats that a producer in Buffalo, Kansas, bought from me in January, 2005. "Kiwi" and "Baby Goat" were bred to my Naturally Polled FB Boer Buck, TAZ. Both are registerable as 50% Boer. B-2 will also go to Missouri along with Paige to be a recip doe for an Embryo Transplant of a FB NZ buck egg. That kid will also be born in March 2007. "B-2" is so named because she has a blonde head like another goat I once had that was wilder than a March Hare. She was called "Blonde Girl", so when "B-2" was born and showed many of the same characteristics, she became "B-2". I will keep her and see how she is when she kids next March. If she settles down, then she will stay on the farm. If she doesn't, then I will sell her when the kid is weaned. FUNNY FACE is so named because of the looks of her face. She has a very wide white stripe down her face and just outside her eyes down past her muzzle. The rest of her head, ears and neck are red. She will be bred to LEGACY in the late fall for March kids. Hopefully, I will get some really pretty kids from both genetics. Also, with dairy nannies for mothers, B-2 and FUNNY FACE should have nice udders like their mothers and give lots of milk to feed a couple or three kids. **************************************************************************************** **************************************************************************************** P-I-B (Pain In The Butt) is one of two doe kids that were purchased from Christina Schmalzreid in June 2005. Both were bottle babies when I got them. You know how bottle babies are--always getting underfoot. The other doe was sold because she just did not have the conformation or personality of P-I-B to be what I thought would make a good mother. P-I-B is BoerXNubian and should have excellent capabilities for providing ample milk for kids next year. She will be bred to DUKE in late fall (November or December) to kid in April or May 2007. **************************************************************************************** **************************************************************************************** DUCHESS AND SMOKETTE are my KIKO cross doe kids from Duke this year. DUCHESS' mother is Ruthy and is already looking like she will have the size and conformation to carry a couple fo 5-6 pound kids. She and SMOKETTE will both be A-I'd this fall with FB NZ Semen from a KIKO/SAVANNAH breeder in Virginia. This semen is from his red KIKO buck. SMOKETTE'S mother was an Alpine nanny I had here, but SMOKE developed mastitis when she kidded, wouldn't let me treat or milk her, so to the sale barn she went when SMOKETTE was weaned. I have been down that road before with goats having mastitis 2 or 3 years in a row, and decided that I would not go that route again. It is too much work and hassle. Hopefully, I will not have that problem with this gal. If I do, she too will be gone. I don't need the extra hassle or work. It has taken me a while to learn that lesson, but learn it I have. **************************************************************************************** ****************************************************************************************
PRINCESS is a little 50% Boer doeling I bought the end of April at the Clay Center Livestock Auction. She was only 3 days old. She was in a group of half a dozen baby goats and the only doe. Even though she would be a bottle baby for me to take care of, I decided that I would try to get her, and I did. She cost me $20.00 and worth it. She is out of a registered Boer Buck from Colorado, but the owners have never transferred his papers and don't want the hassle of paper work necessary to put paper work on the little doe kids from this buck. Kind of sad that they will sell the doe kids for meat prices instead of selling them with "Application For Registration" papers so they would get more money for them. She is named after one of the nannies I lost in the barn fire in 2004. She is growing like a weed and will become part of my commercial Boer/KIKO herd since I have no papers on her. **************************************************************************************** ****************************************************************************************
MIDNIGHT is a little black Nigerian Dwarf Doe that I bought at the Herington Livestock Auction in February 2006. She was in with a group of 3-4 month old Boer Does. She has become the "bottle baby goat-sitter". She is gentle and a pleasure to have around. She may never get bred since I don't know anyone who has a Nigerian Dwarf buck, but that is ok. Sure don't want her bred to either of my big bucks. **************************************************************************************** ***************************************************************************************
DAISY, HONEY, and BROWN SUGAR arrived after their long journey from Schell City, Missouri and Ray Evans’ WAR LANCE FARM with a brief stopover at John Allensworth’s farm just north of Topeka, Kansas. John was going over to pick up some KIKO cross does and a Black KIKO buck from Ray, so he offered to pick up my 3 girls as well. I am very grateful as I did not really want to have to make that trip over to the Missouri Ozarks a second time in a year. The first trip was to pick up my black 7/8ths KIKO buck, DUKE, in early May 2005, from Cynthia Wetzel’s “Crazy Woman’s Ranch” at Beulah, Missouri. I met John at his place in Topeka once he got home and fell in love with the girls at first sight. I had already seen photos of them, but they were even prettier than the photos! DAISY is a black yearling Nubian nanny with the frosted ears. She will be A-I’d this fall with the FB NZ KIKO semen I have at the vet’s in Abilene. HONEY is DAISY’S 50% KIKO doe kid that is about 8 weeks old. She is cream and honey colored with a black stripe down her back. She is gorgeous. BROWN SUGAR is the “adopted daughter” of DAISY, and also 50% KIKO out of Ray’s AKGA registered buck, GRAHAM CRACKER. She is a mahogany-reddish brown- color with the frosted Nubian ears and black stripe down her back like HONEY. HONEY and BROWN SUGAR will most likely be A-I’d in January or February 2007 with the last of the KIKO semen I have on hand. With their colors and the color genetics from the red KIKO buck I should have some really nice colored kids.
And so my transition to mainly KIKO GOATS has begun. As I have often told many people, “GOD doesn’t close one door, but what HE opens another one. You have to make the decision on whether you just stand still or open that door and begin a new Journey—wherever it may lead you.”
