Carpe Diem
Carpe Diem...Seize the day.. Isn't that what we should try to do every day in our lives? Most of us live our lives day by day as if we were just robots in a machine factory doing the same tedious thing day after day. Haven't you ever noticed that life is just a repeating pattern? A cycle of things that are recurring? History itself is like that in a way, in that the same things happen over and over again as history repeats itself and we learn nothing from it. Animals in fact learn better than us. Maybe that's why they've survived for so long.
In any case, if we actually want to make something of ourselves, we sholdn't live each day as if there are an infinite amount given to us as a burden. We shold live each day with a goal in mind. "Today I will finish all of my homework by 8:00pm." "Today I will hike a 5 mile trail." "By the end of the week I will lose 5 lbs." It could be as simple as those, or as complicated as saving another's life. However we must do something with our life. We could read and take our education level one step further.
In another sense, we must seize the day and use Carpe Diem in the choices we make in life. I have faced many a choice and it seems as though I may never get that chance again. I may later in life, but that's not the point. If something comes up, you should do it. This may be your only chance. If you like someone, you may never find anyone else like that, so you might as well as him or her out rather than letting it go and wondering the rest of your life what would have happened if only...
We have a tendency to say "if only" a lot.. "If only I didn't do that.." "If only I did.." "If only I got better grades.." Wouldn't it be great to live without the "If only"'s without a single regret? If you don't do anything about a situation that comes up, you never will know what would have happened as a result. Results sprout up from the smallest things. You could be given an assignment in English and just happened to be awake that night and wrote a good paper. Two weeks later you find out that that English paper has been selected to be sent off to a contest. You then find out you win overall in the state and get a 10,000 scholarship. But if you didn't care about it, none of that would have happened.
This is why we must try to put effort into everything we do, and try to be the best possible person we can. Of course we all have faults, who doesn't? Even Jesus had faults.. He drank wine and knocked over tables in the church like a mad man. If I were there at the time I would have been scared out of my wits.. Use Carpe Diem in your life. Don't let a chance pass you by. Live each day to the fullest because you never know when that day will be your last. Don't just think because you're young and that you have a whole life to experience you're going to live until you're old. That's a problem with many teens who think they're going to live forever. That they just might be the one person in history who does in fact live forever. Maybe that's why so many teens act so irresponsible and do drugs, smoke, drink, and do bad in school.
If you were to live each day to the fullest, you would find out that life wouldn't be so boring as it is now. Set goals for yourself.Try to make someone smile at least once a day. Give someone something to look at in a different light. Do a good deed and make someone happy. Carpie Diem, Seize the day.
