-=-=-= September 15, 2010 From the journal of Sandra Polanski, former citizen of Larson. "Life's been interesting in Larson lately. What with all the earthquakes, storms and fires, it makes you wonder what the Powers That Be intend. I watch this maelstrom with some interest, wondering what's happening. It seems like the entire city is under some kind of strange, supernatural attack, and I fear things are only going to get worse before they get better. Who knows? I'm packing now, and heading south. I don't know what's happening, but I don't want to stay here and find out." Like Ms. Polanski, many saw those earthquakes, storms and fires as portents of some great cataclysm, and fled the city. Once more, Larson faced a threat, this time not by the hand of mankind, but by some unknown force. The supernatural denizens of the city, those who walked between the shadows and remained hidden amongst the mortals, fought hard to end the meanace of the Baali and their demonic allies -- to no avail. It all came to a head on the night of September 15, 2010, when the city of Larson experienced a earthquake of tremendous proportion, registering an amazing 8.9 on the Richter Scale. The city was engulfed in flames, and while at least a good portion of the population escaped, many more perished. Many from Larson fled to Bar Harbor and Mt. Desert Island, increasing that area's population. These refugees were welcomed by the city, and encouraged to move past what had happened to Larson. Those who returned to Larson found nothing but water, the earth having simply opened up and swallowed the city, submerging it in the lake. Memorials have been built on the shore to commemmorate those who died in the cataclysm, and a wall has been erected in Bar Harbor's Satai Botanical Gardens. The governement is taking its own sweet time helping the survivors rebuild their lives, but at least the insurance companies are paying off under the "Act of God" clause. The loss of an entire city is nothing new in the World of Darkness. Death, destruction -- all fit into the grand scheme of things. Only, when the supernaturals arrived in Bar Harbor, they found none of their kind there amongst the mortal inhabitants. In fact, nothing of a supernatural nature was left in any form. And that begs the question -- "What happened to them?" =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Continued in History 10 Back to News Files |
