“You never loved me, did you?” He asked dully. “All you ever wanted was for me to sleep with you. I was such a fool to have believed you…”

“Ash, I…” Gary began, but the Champion had stopped speaking, and for some reason, the silence was much worse than the speech. Abruptly, and without a word, Ash half-smiled, before he leaned out the open window.

The window that was on the fifth floor of an apartment building…

“Ash! No!” Gary screamed, but it was lost in the rush of wind as the Champion let go. Stunned, the other Pallet Trainer rushed to the window, only to see a messy smear of red and white on the pavement below.

He felt sick, and barely made it to the bathroom before he retched, not wanting to see…

That was a pity. If he had looked, he would have seen a shimmer, a glitter of gold, before darkness enveloped Ash’s fallen from.

            But it was too late.

Lance found his visitor perched on his bed, wings neatly folded behind his back and armor splattered with blood. He raised a single eyebrow but did not comment.

            “Lance…”

“You’re awake, Destiny? What happened to Ash?”

“He threw himself out a window when he discovered Gary was cheating on him. I swear; he learned all of his melodrama from you.” The guardian fumed.

Lance did not laugh. He simply studied the legendary in front of him quietly. “What now?” He asked. “What do you want me to do?”

            “Break his illusions.”

“He’s already dead. I doubt there is anything left to shatter.”

Destiny sulked. “You’re right…. He’s only my host, but now that he is gone it will be difficult.”

“No doubt.” Lance said dryly. “Are the other forms sleeping?”

“Hope is, but I’m not sure Red – the Master of Hidden Shadows is.” Destiny replied. “I can’t find anything for me to do right now though, all I live for is war and currently, we have none here.”

“No. Tis a tad disappointing but by the same token, it makes Guardianship much easier.” Lance agreed. “You’re getting blood on my bed sheets. Is it yours?”

“Of course not, Lance.” He smirked. “I got rid of Gary.”

Lance’s eyebrow rose, as Destiny flushed. “Well! I don’t like him! You know that! I love you!”

“Yes, yes.” The Dragon Master soothed. “That is the way fate is.”

“And a good thing it is, too.” Destiny shuddered. “Gary makes my skin crawl.”

“He’s not actively evil this life.”

“Well, he could be! And he tried to kill me already! And capture me! I didn’t like that at all!”

“No need to be so defensive,” Lance purred. “I trust you.”

Destiny deflated, and Lance pulled him into a hug, feeling the other Guardian relax. “You should not have woken this early.”

“I know. I might never have awakened at all if not for Ash’s suicidal tendencies.”

“Well, it matters little. What is done is done. And all we can do is look to the future.”

Destiny grinned, tipping his head up as he kissed Lance. “Okay.”

He had all of Ash’s innocence, but none of his betrayal… and none of his failings…

Was it any wonder Lance loved the spirit within the shell?

            No.

I might as well say it straight. I hate Gary Oak’s character, and so, I gladly kill him and make him a villain! Green is bearable and I like pairing him with Koga and Aya, but Gary? Yuck!
