Heart of a Champion – Chapter 2

Lance had never been very patient. In fact one could say that he was chronically inpatient. But the time that he spent waiting for news on Red was simply too excruciating for him to put into words.

He did everything to keep himself preoccupied. He read through some magazines, paced around the lobby a bit (receiving some weird stares from the nurse receptionist in the process) but every time he would always go back to thinking about Red.

Poor Red”, he would think to himself. Yes, poor Red indeed. Yes, poor ebony haired Red with his lithe figure, and his beautiful brown pupils, and those luscious pink lips just asking to be taken...

Lance’s eyes suddenly popped open when he realized where his mind was taking him. No! Right now was definitely not the time to be having those thoughts. Red was probably in a fight for his life and Lance was there having perverse thoughts.

But were they really that perverse, Lance wondered to himself. After all, what was to say that Red didn't want him too? His mind dared to explore this notion a bit further but before he could do this the nurse receptionist suddenly came before him.

“Sir, good news, your boy has come out of surgery.” she said softly. She obviously thought that Lance was very troubled, though she had no idea exactly how troubled he actually was.

For the second time that night Lance's eyes popped open. “Surgery? What do you mean surgery? No one told me there was going to be surgery!” he began to yell.

The nurse quickly sprang into action trying to calm him down, but fortunately for her the doctor came to the Dragon Master before his rant reached full potential.

“Yes sir. The boy you brought in had been suffering from a burst appendix. In order to cease the pain we had to perform a simple procedure to remove it. Other than a minor incision nothing else was done to the boy.”

This calmed Lance down considerably. “A burst appendix so that's what was wrong with him?” He asked curiously.

“Yes sir. Fortunately, your actions to bring the boy before us so quickly were with merit. If you hadn't brought him in when you, did he could have gone into shock and if that had happened...” the doctor released a short sigh before she continued, “Who knows what effect that could have had on,” She said asking for another name other than ‘boy’ for the first time that evening.

“Red.” Lance answered.

“Red.” the doctor repeated bobbing her head.

Lance looked down at his feet before asking, “So is he free to go?”

“Yes he is, but I do have to warn you that surgery like this can often be very physically straining for the first few weeks. I would suggest that you keep Red confined to a bed with as little physical activity as possible.”

Lance nodded his head, “Understood.” He said, as he quietly thanked Mew for blessing him with his Red once more.
