Title: Dark Magic Ritual

Pairing: Loyaltyshipping (Atemu x Mahaado)

Summary: During the battle with Pandora, seeing his Dark Magician’s sacrifice brings back to Yami memories of another time and another sacrifice, back in Egypt… but what will Yami resort to, to get his loyal friends back? Maybe someone would be willing to die in the name of ‘friendship’?

Yami was *still* in shock as he let Yuugi regain control after the battle with Pandora. His Dark Magician had selflessly sacrificed itself to save his life…

But why was it so familiar? Was it related, perhaps, to his past in some way? And if so, how?

            I wish I knew…

Be careful what you wish for, Yami. Instantly, images began flashing before his eyes. A man – no, a boy, really, not much older than he, the Millennium Ring dangling around his neck, white robes, dark blue eyes shaded by dark brown hair…

            Mahaado…

Knives. Swinging Blades. Blood. Darkness! A shadow bridge in – was that a tomb? White hair, scar, leering in a red coat, was that… Bakura? Yes, Bakura fighting… and… loss! Death! Gone forever? No…

“Spirit-sorcerer’s final secret! Using my life as a sacrifice, combine ba and ka together!”

Pharaoh, my soul will be your eternal servant…

            “Mahaado!”

Gasping, Yami broke out of his memories, trembling. Yes, Mahaado… his loyal servant, even in death. Oh Mahaado, you deserve better than being trapped in the shadow realm for eternity…

I wish I could bring you to life again.

More memories came to head… memories of warm sunlight tumbling over snowy linen, tangled limbs and stolen kisses, hushed whispers and intimacy... Yami blushed, realizing exactly what those memories were of.

All right, perhaps friend hadn’t been the most accurate definition.

No matter what though, he would find a way.

Strange, Isis had said Battle City would be the key to unlocking his memories. But maybe he didn’t *need* the god cards.

Maybe it was the act of battling that would bring them back.

            That might make sense.

Yami closed his eyes, Yuugi would call him if anything pressing dangerous occurred, and began recalling all his magic lessons.

Had there been any spells to revive the dead?

Yes… hadn’t there been, Dark Magic Ritual?

He could do it easily, sacrifice a few people, and then he’d have Mahaado back to hug and cuddle and…

            Wait.

His hikari might not like that.

Yami frowned. Yes, that *could* be a problem. Yuugi might not appreciate what Yami wanted to do with his body.

            So what to do?

*Or*, he could twist the ritual, sacrifice *four* people, and get bodies for both himself and Mahaado, better yet, add a few more so he’d see Mana again.

Kawaii, Mana, the dark magician girl! They’d been friends in Ancient Egypt, the three of them, three parts of a whole, really. He was like her little sister, or…

Okay, so it wasn’t strictly friendship in that part either…

            So what? He was pharaoh.

            < Yami? >

Yami’s head snapped up. < Oh, is something wrong, Yuugi? >

            < Um… I just feel you’re worried about something. >

            < I’m not worried. >

< Are you sure Yami? >

< It’s nothing, mou hitori no boku. >

No, he wouldn’t taint his pure little light with his presence any longer… it wasn’t worth it at all

And really, Yuugi’s friends liked Yuugi, aside from Anzu, who was… well… clingy. She reminded him of the maidens of Hathor back in Egypt…

In that case, well, they’d see what happened next…

It was easy – he’d rounded up the bullies he’d met early in Yuugi’s life – they certainly hadn’t repented, any of them, and death would probably be kinder than all those punishment games…

            Perhaps…

In any case, he was ready.

Perhaps Yuugi knew of his continued forays in the shadow realm, but he’d shielded himself well, and now, the time was right…

The flames burned darkly over the magician’s pentagram as the former pharaoh stood before the bubbling cauldrons. Horribly inelegant, but if it worked…

The black lighting danced and lanced around him in a beautifully intrinsic pattern, before his ruby eyes glittered once more and the world imploded in gray mist around him.

            “Pharaoh?”

            That voice…

He found Mahaado, dressed once more in robes of the purest white linen and golden ornaments, supporting him…

            “Mahaado…”

            “Pharaoh… Are you all right?”

He yanked his faithful priest down into a kiss. “Never better.” Mahaado fidgeted, but only slightly.

He could ask the pharaoh of details on how he’d escaped later…

Of course, yes, later, much later…

End Fic, for now…
